It is with deep love and sadness that the family of Laura Sabasch, age 99, announce her passing on Saturday, July 12, 2025, at The Meadows in Swift Current, SK.
Laura Martha Sabasch was born on February 24, 1926, on the family farm near Kelstern, SK, to Bernard & Helen Tacholsky. She was one of six children and grew up alongside her siblings Rudolf, Bertha, Sophie, John, and Tillie. From an early age, Laura learned the values of hard work, faith, and resilience that would guide her throughout her life.
On October 24, 1947, Laura married William Wirsche. Together, they were blessed with two children, Beatrice (Gerald) Haubrich and Bill (Alda) Wirsche. Tragically, Willie passed away suddenly in June of 1952, leaving Laura a young widow with two small children.
In time, Laura found love again and married John Sabasch on October 12, 1956. Their union brought three more children—Rocky (Theresa) Sabasch, Connie (Clarence) Haubrich and Coreen (Ron) Strieb. Laura also embraced Penny Lee (Ken) Markewich - John’s daughter from a previous marriage, as her own. Together, they built a loving and busy household filled with laughter, warmth, and devotion.
Laura’s life was marked by her quiet strength, her deep care for her family, and her ability to create a warm and welcoming home. She will be remembered for her kindness, her unwavering faith, and her gentle, nurturing spirit. Her family is grateful for the many memories and the example of love and perseverance she leaves behind.
Laura was predeceased by her parents, Bernard & Helen Tacholsky; her first husband, William Wirsche; her second husband, John Sabasch; her brothers, Rudolf and John; and her sisters, Bertha and Sophie.
Laura’s legacy lives on through her 6 children; 15 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and all those whose lives she touched over her nearly 100 years.
The family passes on loving appreciation to the staff at The Meadows, with heartfelt thanks to those in House 21 for their compassionate care and dedication to Laura during her time there.
