Leander Eugene Buhr, age 83, passed away suddenly at the Leader Integrated Health Facility, Leader, SK on Saturday, April 4, 2020. Leander was born September 18, 1936, twin to Leona, to Jacob H. and Katarina (Tina) Buhr on SE 12-18-10 W3. Leander grew up on the farm north of Herbert, SK and attended Reed Valley School and then graduated from Herbert High School.
He bought grain for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool at Kettlehut, Herbert and Girvin. During that time he married Marlyn Dombrowsky in August 1959. They moved to their farm near Herbert in 1963, where they raised their two children - Bonnie and Wayne. In 2017, they officially retired to their condo community in Swift Current. During the last few months of his life, Leander lived at the Prairie Wind Estates in Herbert and finally, the Leader Integrated Health Facility.
Besides running a mixed farm, Leander was active in the co-operative movement serving on the Herbert Credit Union Board, Herbert Co-op Board and as Saskatchewan Wheat Pool Delegate and Director. Leander will be remembered as a dignified, steady person who served his family, community and church faithfully.
Leander is survived by his children, Bonnie (Doug) Meier, and Wayne (Melanie) Buhr; his grandchildren, Corey (Tristan) Norton, Justin (Anna) Buhr, and Erynn Buhr; his great granddaughter Ella Buhr; his sisters Leona (Ed) Nein, Luella Friesen, and Mary MacDonald; his sister-in-laws Anita Thiessen and Lory Dombrowsky; and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leander was predeceased by his wife Marlyn; his grandson David Meier; his parents Jacob and Katarina (Tina) Buhr; his brothers - Victor, Albert, Irvin and Norman.
A Private Family Interment Service for Mr. Leander Buhr took place at the Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK.
A Memorial Luncheon will take place at a later date.
