Joseph Leary Redmond was born on August 3, 1934, in Beechy, SK, to Joe and Florence Redmond. He attended Beechy School before moving to Regina to pursue a mechanics course. After completing his studies, Leary worked at the Ringrose Garage before marrying Donna Clark on August 12, 1958, in Beechy, SK. The couple then moved to Victoria, BC, where they opened an Esso service station with Leary’s brother, Jack. Together, they had two daughters: Kathy Ann (1959) and Theresa Suzanne (1960). In 1963, they returned to Beechy to begin farming, and soon after, their third daughter, Paula Diane, was born. Leary was a dedicated worker who valued his family, his faith, farming, and his community. He was always the first to offer a helping hand when needed. During the winter months, he spent much of his time at the community rink, coaching Bomber and peewee hockey. From April to October, his focus was on his farm, where he enjoyed working alongside his daughters and father-in-law, Byron Clark. Family was the heart of his world, and he made sure to be present for every important event in the lives of his daughters and grandchildren. Whether it was celebrations, weddings, vacations, or reunions, Leary was there, always a steady and supportive presence. Clearwater Lake held a special place in Leary's heart, a place he and his siblings had spent many summers growing up. As an adult, he treasured making new memories there with his daughters, nieces, and nephews. It was rare to have a summer pass without Leary jokingly threatening to throw a nephew or two off the pier. When his grandchildren arrived, Leary decided it was time to build a new cabin. With the help of family and friends, he built it with his own hands, creating a place where the whole family could enjoy countless summers together. Leary retired from farming in 1999 but continued helping his good friend’s son with harvests well into his 80s. In 2017, Leary and Donna left the farm and moved to Beechy, where they made a new home. Leary found joy in quiet days with Donna and looked forward to family visits during holidays and special occasions. Leary passed away on February 3, 2025, at Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK, after a brief battle with pneumonia. He is survived by his wife Donna, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage; his daughters Kathy Redmond of Beechy, Theresa (Craig) Kosek of Vancouver Island, and Paula (Terry) Johns of Calgary; his grandchildren Sarah (Justin) Torrance, Jeff Redmond, and Robert Johns; as well as many nieces and nephews. Leary is predeceased by his parents, Florence and Joe Redmond; his in-laws, Byron and Jenny Clark; his brother, Jack (Hazel) Redmond; and his sisters, Kay (Ted) Arling and Audrey Redmond.
