Lillian Wainman Obituary

Lillian Wainman (nee Loewen) age 92, of Swift Current SK and formerly of Pambrun, SK passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on the morning of Wednesday, January 1, 2020, from Cypress House in Swift Current.

Lillian was born September 13, 1927 in Herbert, SK — the youngest and last of sixteen children born to Margaret & Jacob Loewen. She received her education at Herbert, Lost River, and Herschel, SK. At the young age of 16, Lillian was orphaned and lived with her brother and his family in Herschel. She entered nurses training at Saskatoon City Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1949. Directly after graduation, her exceptional skills and efficiency in caring for patients brought her supervisory positions at City Hospital in maternity, whole hospital night supervisor, and supervisor of the isolation unit.

Lillian met Bill Wainman, her life’s love, and they were married on June 28, 1951. They moved from Saskatoon to Outram, SK in 1953 to begin their farming life. Lillian continued her nursing career by “specialing” maternity patients at the Estevan Hospital. In 1962, they took over Bill’s family farm at Pambrun and raised two sons and a daughter. They supplemented wheat farming with an egg business and Lillian faithfully delivered eggs to the Swift Current Regional Hospital and to the Co-op stores for many years. Eventually cattle replaced the egg business and Lillian went back to nursing again, this time at the Vanguard Union Hospital.

She enjoyed cooking — always looking for the next great recipe idea — baking, cake decorating, flower arranging, and singing duets with her daughter at church and community events for many years, using her beautiful voice to praise God. She loved to travel, and they enjoyed trips to Florida, the UK, Hawaii, cruising to Alaska, and numerous car trips around North America to visit family and friends.

Lillian & Bill moved into Swift Current in 2000, continuing to spend seeding and harvest season at the farm for many years. Her strong faith in Christ carried her through many difficult challenges in life and left a beautiful legacy for her family.

Lillian is survived by her husband of 68 years, Bill; her daughter, Brenda (Carl) Linkletter; her sons, Lowell Wainman and Blair Wainman; her grandchildren, Nicole (Dave), Michael (fiancé, Stacy), and Richard (Elizabeth); her great-grandchildren, Juan, Olivia, and Noah; as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and precious friends.

Our grateful thanks to the staff at the Bentley, Cypress Regional Hospital, and Cypress House for their loving care for Mom and our family throughout her final days.

The Funeral Service for Lillian Wainman was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 2:00 pm from Trailview Alliance Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Mike Smart officiating. “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “My Jesus, I Love Thee” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Karan Regier, with Marilyn Ginther serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Helene Leiding, who sang “When I’m Lonely and Defenseless.” The tribute was given by Brenda Linkletter.

The Private Family Interment Service was held prior to the Funeral Service from the Pambrun Cemetery, Pambrun, SK with Marvin Allan, Tom Runcie, Lyle Rempel, Rodney Gamble, Richard Wainman, and Rene Seemel serving as Pallbearers.
