Margaret Wiebe

Margaret Wiebe, age 92 years, 10 months, 28 days, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.

Margaret (Penner) Wiebe was born on February 14, 1932 in the Bigford District to Jacob & Maria Penner. She obtained her education at Lens East School. In Margaret’s teenage years she worked as a homemaker and nanny for various families in the Stewart Valley area. Margaret and her sister, Agnes, worked in the Taber area in the beet fields and this is where Margaret met David Wiebe. She was baptized upon the confession of her faith on May 21, 1951 at the Rosenhof Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. Margaret Penner and David Wiebe were married on March 29, 1953 at the Rosenhof Sommerfeld Mennonite Church. Together, they farmed at Rosenhof. When David became an ordained minister in 1969, Margaret became a hostess to many, many people who just stopped in unexpectedly. Due to dad's position in the church and mom's hospitality, our parents became father & mother, and grandfather & grandmother figures to others.

Margaret enjoyed puzzling, gardening, raising chickens, sewing, crocheting and her house plants. Canning became a necessity due to increased demand for hospitality. Margaret enjoyed harvesting her various fruits on the acreage, apples, apricots, plums, pears, grapevines, strawberries, raspberries, saskatoons, and rhubarb. Margaret continued living in Rosenhof until 2021, when due to failing health, she moved to Cypress House in Swift Current. She made her last move in March of 2022 to The Willows at Riverview in Swift Current where she resided until her passing. Margaret enjoyed her time there and made many new friends and called it HOME. She was a very reserved and quiet person, but when she said something, it held meaning, sometimes very sarcastically. Listening to church services on the radio, reading her Bible, and attending church were very important and Margaret did so as long as she was able.

Margaret is survived by her family, Wesley (Judy) Wiebe, Clifford (Barbara) Wiebe, Arnold (Norma) Wiebe, Lydia (Peter) Heinrichs, Harold (Sylvia) Wiebe, and Marni (Wade) Rempel; 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and by 4 sisters-in-law. She was predeceased by her husband, David Wiebe; a daughter, Marjorie Wiebe; her parents, Jacob & Maria Penner; all her siblings; numerous in-laws; and by many nieces and nephews.
