Margaretha Fehr

June 12, 1918 ~ May 30, 2022 (age 103) 103 Years Old

Margaretha Fehr Obituary

A child of God and a follower of Jesus, Margaretha Fehr, age 103, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 30, 2022 at Sunny South Lodge in Coaldale, AB with her daughter, Hilda, holding her hand.

Margaretha was born June 12, 1918 to John & Margaret Friesen near Osler, SK. Later, she and her parents and siblings moved to Mildred, SK where they farmed. In her teens, she helped support her family by working for neighbors as a housekeeper.

Margaretha’s faith in Jesus was unshakable throughout her entire life — she memorized many prayers and knew the catechism word for word and was baptized into the family of God in 1938. That same year, she married Isaac Fehr and they were blessed with three children — Betty, Peter, and Hilda. Together, they lived and farmed in Rhineland, SK until Isaac’s death in 1980.

With no formal schooling, Margaretha taught herself to read and write English as an adult. She had many hobbies — sewing, gardening, quilting, embroidering tea towels, growing flowers, and she always had a puzzle on the go. She loved baking and cooking for family and friends. Most memorable are the hundreds of scarves she knitted and gave away to all who knew her and to charities.

As an avid Swift Current Broncos fan, she went to and listened by radio to many games. She treasured the Broncos jersey she received for her 90th birthday from her grandchildren with her name and the number 90 on it.

Music brought her great joy and delight, especially gospel songs and anything she could tap her toes to. She loved taking trips, and one highlight for Margaretha that she often talked about was the east coast bus tour she took with her friend, Anne Dyck.

More precious to her than all of this was the delight she found in being with her family. There were many picnics in the park eating KFC where she spoke very little, simply enjoying being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She prayed for each one of her family every night on her knees, at her bedside for as long as she was able.

Margaretha leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Hilda Dyck; her son-in-law, Pat Newburgh; her daughter-in-law, Liz Fehr; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Gene) Batdorf, Lawrence (Tasha) Newburgh, Jason Dyck, Carmen (Tyler) Wall, Lisa (Nathan) Adrian, and Ginger Heinrichs; her great-grandchildren, George, Peter, Brooklyn, and Megan Adrian, Amber, Elijah, and Seth Heinrichs, Gideon and Elyse Wall; her dear friend, Lena Dyck; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Waiting in heaven to welcome Margatha is her husband, Isaac Fehr (1980); her son, Peter Fehr (2010); her daughter, Betty Newburgh (2011); her grandsons, Joshua and Matthew Dyck (1969); her grandson-in-law, Curtis Heinrichs (2021); her parents, John & Margaret Friesen; and by her two brothers and four sisters.
