Marilyn Rempel Obituary

Marilyn Joye Rempel, age 71, was reunited with her husband, Vic, in their Heavenly Home on Monday, May 13, 2024. Marilyn was born September 4, 1952 to Mel & Amy Fredlund in Camrose, AB. Growing up with big brother, Allan, and baby sister, Ruthie. Marilyn accepted Jesus as her Saviour at a young age, treasuring her relationship with Him. Learning over 100 Bible verses every year gave her the opportunity to attend the summer camps her dad spoke at. Following her mom’s example, she loved to make things beautiful – gardening and flowers, her beautiful singing, and her love to sew. Her creativity sparked at a young age – sewing her first dress at age nine.

Marilyn embraced adventure and independence when she left home to attend Bible College at Hillcrest and ventured to Calgary, AB to work various jobs, including AMA travel, which provided the opportunity to fly around the States on her own. Thankfully, she settled in Calgary long enough to meet a thoughtful, shy, hard-working mechanic who shared her love for the Lord.

On June 8, 1974 Marilyn & Vic Rempel were married and shortly after moved to Main Centre, SK to start their life on the family farm. A son, Korwin, was welcomed in 1975 and in 1978, a daughter, Delynn, made their family complete. Marilyn loved being a mom and worked hard to care for her kids and teach them the values she held dear. She embraced her farm wife role until 1989, when the family moved to Swift Current, SK to expand her business. De-Kor Framing was an outlet for Marilyn’s creativity, enjoying many years of creating beautiful artwork. She loved the customers she served, many of her staff became lifelong friends. When Marilyn sold her business, she was able to focus on doing projects around the beautiful home built, designed, and decorated together with her sweetie. She took great pride in the countertops handcrafted with Vic.

A new level of joy came when her first grandson, Ethan, was born. They shared a special bond, many hours were spent together. Her granddaughter, Mia, arrived three years later and she was ecstatic. They seemed to share many attributes, she often commented how much Mia reminded her of herself. An adventurous grandma, she could be found in the creek crayfish hunting, going down the zip line at West Bank Bible Camp, or water sliding. Always ready to help, she was their faithful barber, seamstress, and cheerleader. She loved teaching them how to garden, sew, paint, and bake. Marilyn & Vic played an active part in their lives, making many precious memories. Marilyn’s family was completed with the addition of Neve and Gabe. Unfortunately, they lived far away so she worked hard, sewing gifts and sending cards to show her love. Her goal, before the cancer took over her body, was to make a quilt for each grandkid – a tangible reminder to show just how much she loved each of them. Her last quilt was finished less than two weeks before she passed.

Marilyn’s friends were as important as her family, she treasured every opportunity to spend time making memories and was ready to help, no matter what was needed! In her last years, she grew close with Nancy and Shirley – they could be found shopping for plants, making thin bread, sewing, playing games, or volunteering at the MCC. Marilyn loved her MCC Monday’s, especially the challenge to make her displays dazzle, and to spend time with “the wonderful group of ladies she worked with.”

Six months after the love of Marilyn’s life was taken to heaven, she was diagnosed with Plasma Cell Leukaemia. Though a grim diagnosis, her attitude stayed positive. She treasured the friendships made with every nurse and fellow patient, looking for ways to encourage and bring some light into their lives.

Marilyn will be forever missed by her son, Korwin (Leslie) Rempel, and their children, Neve and Gabe; her daughter, Delynn, (Ryan) Riegel, and their children, Ethan and Mia; her sister, Ruth (Keith) Snider; and by numerous family members and friends.

Marilyn was predeceased by her loving husband, Vic Rempel; her parents, Mel & Amy Fredlund; her brother, Allan Fredlund; and several extended family members.

A huge hole was left in our lives when Marilyn’s earthly journey ended. We are so thankful for her and the example she provided and look forward to when we will see her again!
