Marion Edlyn Solberg (née Bradley), age 87, passed away peacefully with her family by her side in the early hours of Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the Herbert Integrated Health Facility, Herbert, SK.
Marion Edlyn Solberg was born on June 23, 1937, on a farm near Chaplin, SK, to Henry & Bertha Bradley. She spent most of her life on the Solberg family farm near Gouldtown, SK, as an involved member of both the surrounding community and the Lutheran Church. We know she was happy to have been able to spend her final years in the care of the Prairie Wind Estates and the Herbert Integrated Health Facility, both in Herbert, SK.
Marion is survived by her son, Jarret (Cheryl) Solberg; her daughter, Theresa Daniels (Dan); her grandchildren, Megan Solberg (Myles Kreiter), Jamie (Karl) Brady, Rachel Solberg, Raven (Shaun) Ash, Liam, Cailin, and Shannon Daniels; two great-grandchildren, Lennox Ash and Makoah Daniels; her brother, Duane Bradley (Bernice); and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Terrance; her parents, Henry & Bertha Bradley; as well as by her sisters, Lois Zerr, Kathryn Canitz, Hazel Dueck, Dorothy Coombs, Lorraine Monroe, and Margaret Hammerness; her brother, Raymond Hammerness; and by her sister-in-law, Susan Solberg.
Marion trained and worked as a nurse, starting her career in Central Butte before she moved to Herbert after marrying Terrance on June 10, 1960. She loved working with her patients, and she maintained a lifelong passion for medicine, continuing to read and educate herself even after retirement. She also worked long hours on the farm, taking care of the pigs and the house, raising her two kids, and dedicating her time to her faith. She saw her family as her greatest joy, and she believed she was truly blessed by the many friends she had in her life. Although she loved to talk and could carry on hours of conversations with just about anyone, some of her favourite evenings were spent contentedly reading, writing, or playing music with Terrance.
For such a small woman, her absence feels immense. We will miss her seemingly endless capacity for conversation, her unwavering generosity and support, and her willingness to always give people the benefit of the doubt. We will miss her humour, her quirks, and – it almost goes without saying – her cooking, especially her “Garfield” lasagna and her legendary lefse. We miss her very much already, and while we are deeply saddened by her passing, we are comforted to know that she has been reunited with Terrance, whom she has missed dearly these past five years.
A Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. from St. Paul Lutheran Church, Herbert, SK, with a luncheon immediately after the service. Following the luncheon, the interment will be held at 5:00 p.m. at the Highland Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Prairie Winds Estate Inc (1329 Herbert Avenue, Herbert, SK. S0H 2A0) would be appreciated by the family.
