The family of Mary Penner of Herbert wish to announce her passing on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Care Facility.
Mary Penner, age 100 years, passed away on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, at the Herbert Integrated Health Care Facility.
I, Mary Penner, was born on February 8, 1921, to Jacob & Elizabeth (Andres) Penner. I was brought up in a Christian home, taken to Sunday School and church, as regular as possible. As we grew a little older, our parents moved a little closer to church. It was easier to attend children’s functions. Two ladies did a good work with us. It was at the age of 12, that I gave my heart to the Lord. Mother helped, she made Isaiah 53:1-6 very clear to us. If Christ did that for me, I wanted Him in my heart. He took me in, and by His wonderful grace He set me free. In the year 1940, I was baptized and accepted into the MB Church at Greenfarm, our small country church. Pastor Nick Janz was our pastor and really stressed our obedience to Christ. Here I sang in the choir and taught Sunday School. Teaching the small ones was my favorite Class, and I did it for many years. The year of 1960 was a year of transition for my parents and I, we moved to Herbert where we joined the MB Church. I taught Sunday School and sang in the choir again. It was a blessing to do this for the Lord. In 1964, I joined the work force at the Herbert-Morse Union Hospital as a Dietary Cook. It was a challenging job with it’s ups and downs, but also very interesting at times. It was always gratifying to see a patient improve. I did this for twenty-two years. By now my Mom was getting up in years and needed more help and attention. We travelled a bit, as long as she could. Mom enjoyed it and so did I. Then in 1992, she had to go to the Nursing Home, so that finished that job too. I helped my brothers and sisters as much as I could. It was busy, but also enjoyable. I’m thankful to God who gave me the strength.
