Mary (Thiessen) Wiebe, age 87, went to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 19, 2021 from the Meadows – House 19, Swift Current, SK. Mary was born on February 28, 1934 in the Rosenhof, SK area to Frank & Mary Thiessen — the fifth child in a family of eight. She lived around Swift Current until she was nine and then moved to Vanderhoof, BC, where she did the rest of her growing up years.
It is here that she met dad, Isaac Wiebe, and they married on June 28, 1953. They were married for over 56 years and had six children. Mary spent most of her life as a wife, homemaker, and Mom. She kept very busy sewing all of our clothes, gardening, and filling two full-size freezers with vegetables and meat that was butchered on our farm with community help. She enjoyed baking, often annoyed when she’d go get goodies for company and us kids had already eaten them, leaving empty containers.
Mary loved people and was extremely social, so preparing faspa was rarely a chore. She also enjoyed spontaneous road trips to spend time with family and friends and would often have to be packed and ready to go within a matter of hours. She loved playing games with anyone interested, and often proudly won. As her children grew up and scattered, Mary & Isaac moved to Swift Current in the fall of 1994. Her precious moments were when one or all of her children would visit her. She was always looking forward to when the next visit would be.
Mary will be lovingly missed by her children, Jake (Mary) (Vanderhoof, BC), Agnes (Pete) (Eaglesham, AB), Maria (Bill Schmidt) (Vanderhoof, BC), Trudi (Swift Current, SK), Philip (Carolina) (Davie, FL); her son-in-law, Jake (Swift Current, SK); her daughter-in-law, Cathy (Terrace, BC); her fifteen grandchildren; her nineteen great-grandchildren; her sister, Gertie; and by many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Isaac; her son, Dave; her parents, Frank & Mary Thiessen; her seven brothers; and by one sister in infancy. Mom loved her family. She lived loudly and passionately. Her greatest desire was for her loved ones to know Jesus, motivating her relationships with each of them.
The Funeral Service for Mary Wiebe was held on Tuesday, September 27, 2021 at 1:00 pm from East Side Church of God, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. “How Deep the Father’s Love,” “My Jesus, I Love Thee,” and “What a Day That Will Be” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Mary Henderson. A video of Mary reciting Proverbs 3:5-6, Deuteronomy 33:27, and Matthew 28:20 was played. The poem, “I’m Free,” was read by Mary’s daughter-in-law, Carolina. Tributes were given by Mary’s children, Trudi, Maria, and Philip, and by her grandchildren.
The Interment Service was held immediately following the Funeral Service from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with Mary’s grandchildren, Colin Wiebe, Geoff Meadows, Brittany Friesen, Braedon Friesen, Jason Friesen, Elly Schmidt, Quinton Wiebe, and Olivia Wiebe serving as Pallbearers.
