Mary “Molly” Koop, age 87, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Clover House, Swift Current, SK. Molly was born October 21, 1932 to Abram & Katharina Hildebrandt on the family farm near Swift Current. One of nine children, she grew up working on the farm and loved attending her little country school, where she excelled at math.
On November 1, 1952 Molly and John Koop were married at Zion Mennonite Church in Swift Current and began their life of farming together. Together, they raised four children — Brian, Cherilyn, Randy, and Pam. Molly loved being in the garden and working around the yard, buying horses with John and attending auction sales, helping out at the rink in Neville, visiting friends and family, teaching Sunday School, cleaning, and singing.
She was an excellent cook and made the best Sunday chicken. Her baking was legendary, she always had some on hand for whoever might be over and her grandkids especially loved to raid her freezers — all three of them.
Family was incredibly important to Molly, she loved her kids and grandkids unconditionally and with her whole heart. When Christmas came around she threw herself into the preparations, especially the shopping, and many memories of good meals and thoughtful gifts were made. Molly was blessed to remain close with her siblings throughout her life and loved visiting with them.
When it came time to move to town, Molly thoroughly enjoyed living at Riverview Estates, there were good meals and so many things to do — movies, bingo, dancing, going for coffee, and visiting with friends.
But most important in her life was her relationship with God. Molly loved Jesus wholeheartedly and spent many hours in prayer for her kids, grandkids, family, and friends. She had a servant heart until the very end, and even though she was incredibly sick and in pain, she was so gracious and never complained. Molly was so excited to see Jesus face to face.
Molly is survived by her four children and their families, her son, Brian (Leah) Koop, and their children, David (Chantelle), Marissa (James), and Crystal; her daughter, Cherilyn (Jack) Chalmers, and their children, Jon (Amie), Christine (Bill), and Joelle (Mike); her son, Randy Koop, and his children, Justin and Ashley (David); her daughter, Pam (Dean) Angell, and their children, Sharaya, Kaden (Justine), and Kash; her twelve great-grandchildren (and two more coming soon); her siblings, Henry (Carol) Hildebrandt, Ann (Bill) Wall, Helen (Ron) Wegner, Betsy (Wally) Weiser, and Sally (Vic) Friesen; her sisters-in-law, Hilda (Walter) Friesen and Helen Hildebrandt; and by many nieces and nephews.
Molly was predeceased by her husband, John Koop; her grandson, Colton Koop; her parents, Abram & Tina Hildebrandt; her parents-in-law, Jake & Elizabeth Koop; her siblings, Issac, Pete, and Cathy; and by John’s siblings.
The family would like to thank the Riverview staff and friends, they meant so much to her. Special thanks to the Cypress Regional Hospital and to the staff of Clover House for the exceptional care she received.
The Private Family Graveside Service for Molly Koop will take place on Friday, May 1, 2020 from Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current with Pastor Mike Smart officiating.
In memory of Molly Koop, donations made to the Salvation Army Food Bank would be appreciated by the family.
