Marybelle Undseth Obituary

Marybelle Undseth, age 95, was granted her final wish of a peaceful death in her home, surrounded by family. She joined her husband, Ken, at the “pearly gates” on Saturday, March 31, 2018 after 34 years apart. Also there to greet her was her son, David Undseth; her son-in-law, Ralph Berg; her daughter-in-law, Brenda Undseth; her brother, Robert Wright; and by several brothers and sisters-in-law.  Marybelle is survived by her children, Ron Undseth, Karen Berg, Kathy (Doug) Moen, and John (Rhonda) Undeseth; her nine grandchildren; her eight great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Iva Wright and Bertha Undseth; and by her brother-in-law, Clayton (Bernice) Undseth.

Marybelle was born October 14, 1922 in Portage la Prairie, MB to Frank & Emma Faye Wright. She received her education at a one room schoolhouse, by correspondence at Luther College in Regina, SK, and Normal School in Moose Jaw, SK. She met Ken Undseth while boarding at the home of his parents, John & Ida Undseth, during her first teaching job at Mistletoe School. Ken & Marybelle were married on July 12,1944. Life was not without its challenges as they set up house in an old farm shack north of Cabri, SK. It was hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and had no electricity or indoor plumbing. She hated going down to the root cellar for fear of coming across a salamander, mouse, or the odd snake. Family was most important to Marybelle and she was their leader — a true matriarch in the best sense of the word. She loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren immensely. Each felt valued, respected, and accepted.

Marybelle was also very devoted to her friends and her community. Over the years, she was involved with the Cabri Brass Band Auxiliary, parental involvement with Cubs, Scouts, Brownies, and Guides. She was a member of the Gavrelle Women’s Club, taught Sunday School for many years, and was very active in the UCW — along with her best friend, Grace Fahselt. Marybelle worked with the Museum, the Hospital Auxiliary, and the 1984 Cabri History Book Committee. She was proud to be an original member of the Sandhills Home Care District Board and was the Meals on Wheels Coordinator for 24 years. Marybelle was a lovely and kind person. She will be missed by her family and many dear friends, who have many memories to cherish and to keep alive in their hearts.

The Celebration of Life for Marybelle Undseth was held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the United Church, Cabri, SK with Elaine Little and David Hagel officiating. “In the Bulb there is a Flower” and “Guide Me, O Thou Great Jehovah” were sung by the congregation, with Sandra Watson serving as pianist. Special music was brought by David Hagel and Paulette Hadden. The eulogy was given by Justin Moen. The ushers in the church were Don Avis and Robert Fahselt. The Interment Service will be held at a later date from St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Fosterton, SK. In memory of Marybelle Undseth, donations made to St. John’s Lutheran Church and Cemetery (Box 52, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0), the Cabri Community Garden, and Cabri Community Library (c/o the Town of Cabri, Box 200, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0) would be appreciated by the family.
