The Funeral Mass honouring Mervyn’s life will be held in Swift Current Saskatchewan at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church on Thursday, January 5, 2023 at 10:00 am. Due to health reasons the family would appreciate the funeral be limited to family members as much as possible.

It is with great sadness that the family of Mervyn Edwin McDonald, age 91, announces his passing on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK.
Mervyn was born on April 16, 1931 to Austin & Caroline McDonald in Tuberose, SK. During his high school years, Mervyn started working on the family farm, he also worked for numerous farmers in the Lacadena area. In 1951, he began working for the RM of Lacadena performing a variety of jobs over the next 43 years.
Mervyn married Christel Lingnau on July 7, 1951. After they were married, they lived at the Gravelridge Teacherage near Tyner for two years and then moved to the home they built in Lacadena. In 1975, they moved from Lacadena to the family farm. Mervyn continued farming and working for the RM until 1994, when they moved to Swift Current after selling the farm. Shortly after the move to Swift Current, Mervyn took up employment at Leisure Wheels RV where he worked for another 20 years. At the age of 82, he finally retired from the work force.
Left to cherish Mervyn’s memory is his wife of 71 years, Christel McDonald; his sons, Neil (Barb) McDonald, Calvin (Sandra) McDonald, and Brent McDonald; his grandchildren, Corey (Jolene) McDonald, Blane (Chelsie Fruson) McDonald, Ian (Emily) McDonald, Kelsey (Justen Gabriel) McDonald, Brooke McDonald and Brody McDonald; his great-grandchildren, Quinn, Hannah, Wyatt, Scotlyn, Bennett, Brennley, and Brixton; his sister, Gladys Wunderlich; his sisters-in-law, Joyce McDonald and Hilda (Howard) Solie; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Mervyn was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lacey; his parents, Austin & Caroline McDonald; his stepmother, Edith Cheney; his parents-in-law, Aloysius & Johanna Lingnau; his brothers, Cecil McDonald, Ivan McDonald, Lloyd McDonald, and Harvey McDonald; his sister, Mabel McCracken; his sisters-in-law, Catherine McDonald and Catherine Lingnau; his brothers-in-law, Howard McCracken, Richard Wunderlich, and Siegfried Lingnau; his nephews, Kenny McDonald, Michael McDonald, and Dale McCracken; and by his nieces, Beverley Houk and Beth McDonald.
A most heartfelt thank you to the staff at Clover House, Cypress Regional Hospital and Swift Current Home and Palliative Care.
