Mildred Beisel (nee Senft), age 91 of Swift Current, SK went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 5, 2026 at The Meadows care facility.
Mildred was born on September 11, 1934 at Hodgeville SK, to Edward & Rebecca Senft. She grew up on the homestead built by her farmer/preacher grandfather, Samuel & Bertha Senft. As the only daughter, Mildred worked hard helping her mother in the big farmhouse that hosted many guests. She had a very strong bond with her father, and loved to spend time with Ed in the shop, where neighbors often stopped in to see “the man who could fix anything.” She was a prairie girl through and through, and could not be enticed away to the land of orchards. Mildred once remarked on her way home from the coast that the combine working near the highway was the best scenery she had seen in two weeks!
As a young girl, Mildred loved to play softball. When challenged to have his little sister on the team, her brother, Wilmer, would defend her, saying “if that ball comes anywhere near Mildred, she’s gonna catch it”. Fast forward to June 14, 1953, when Mildred caught a pitcher named Lloyd. Theirs was a loving, supportive, faith-based marriage that served as a model for the generations. Mildred adapted to 39 years of CP Rail shift work schedules, with a dose of farming thrown in, as Gottfried lived with them for many winters after Lydia’s premature death.
Mildred loved homemaking. Her priorities were her children and family life. Her extended family was very important to her. She was an excellent baker. Mmmm…her chiffon cakes were legendary. She sewed, crocheted, and did crafts. Her home was always well kept and she welcomed visitors. Mildred also had a competitive streak, bowled in a league, and was something of a sharpshooter at billiards, keeping a photo library of all her visiting victims. She loved attending Lloyd’s commercial fastball games.
Mildred loved babies and small children, volunteering in children’s ministry at the Alliance Church. She was especially thrilled when her own first grandsons in Alberta were born. We would laughingly say that she was tempted to get out of the car and run ahead to see them because Lloyd was driving too slow! Mildred reveled in her role as a grandmother, from hugs, Smarties in her purse, ball games, and campgrounds. Years later she would frequently regale us with memories, laughter, and quotes from her time with the boys.
Mildred is survived by her daughter, Anita (Ray) Verlage of Vernon, BC, their sons, Jordan (Rachelle) and Jared (Victoria): her son, Ross (Wendy) Beisel of Parksville, BC, their sons, Mark (Jacqueline), Garrett (Pearlanne), and Landon (Sarah); six great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; her sister in law, Elizabeth Senft of Kelowna, BC; and by several nieces and nephews. Mildred was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Lloyd Wesley Beisel in 2010; her parents, Edward & Rebecca Senft; her older brother, Wilmer & Lillie Senft; her younger brother, Alan (Liz) Senft; parents-in-law, Gottfried & Lydia Beisel.
Mom persevered through the challenges of losing the love of her life, chronic pain, and other health obstacles in her later years. For those walking alongside her, Mildred’s faith was a testament to the hope we have in eternity with Jesus. We were blessed to have her as a Mother, Grandmother, and a friend.
