Monica "Mona" Meloche Obituary

Monica Jean “Mona” Meloche (nee Hicks) age 89, passed away peacefully on December 5, 2025 with her children by her side. Mona was born on May 6, 1936 in Simpson, SK to Lorne and Helen Hicks (nee Diamond). Helping to run the family dairy farm with early morning deliveries and looking out for her four younger brothers, she was a busy young girl. A good student, especially in math, she pursued a business course in Moose Jaw after graduation.  She met Marcel on a blind date and a year later, in 1958, the “cute little thing” and the tall French lad were married and remained so until Marcel’s passing 66 years later. Dad’s RM Administration roles took them to Glentworth, Climax and Shaunavon and along the way, their three children were born. Once the kids were in school, Mona became the Secretary Treasurer of Christ the King School in Shaunavon, a job she enjoyed for a number of years. Mom loved soft ball, curling, dancing and music. She had grown up in a family of musicians and played the saxophone. She always encouraged her children to be involved in sports and music, and ensured we knew how to dance before we left home!  Mom was a people person and had lifelong friends from everywhere they lived. Being with family was extremely important to her, and she cared deeply for her children, their partners and the grandchildren that followed. The Church, CWL and Royal Purple were also very important to Mona.  Her commitment to her community included playing music for seniors, delivering Meals on Wheels and driving the Courtesy Van.  She was a “yes” person and a “doer” and would help out whoever put out the call. Mom and Dad travelled to Mesa, Yuma, Hawaii (“paradise”) and Victoria in their retirement years enjoying many “Happy Hours” with friends and family.  Unfortunately, Mom had a number of health issues over the years but was fortunate to beat cancer! Alzheimer's took its toll the last few years, but she was always chipper and willing to converse with anyone who came along. We learned much from Mom - how to love and commit, how to bake and dance, and in general, how to enjoy life!!  Mona was pre-deceased by her devoted husband, Marcel; her parents; and by her siblings, Donna, Patricia (Stan), Howard, Ken and Donnie. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Marty (Laurie) - their sons Riley (Harmony) and Regan (Whai); Michelle (Bart); Maureen (Darell) - their sons Tye, Tristan, and Mark Leisle (Christina); and by her six great-grandchildren, Indy, Murphy, Tilly and Ayden, Taliyah and Owen. She is survived by her youngest brother, Rick (Lolly); and sisters-in-law, Carol and Caroline (Michael); and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.

The family wishes to thank the nursing and care staff at The Meadows for their attention and support for Mom over the past six years and especially in the last few days of her life. We would also like to acknowledge and thank family and friends who visited or corresponded with Mom as her health circumstances changed.
