It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Murray Ewald Metke on Monday, February 22, 2021 at the Regina General Hospital. Murray, the youngest of two children, was born in Swift Current on April 18, 1954 to Ewald & Mabel Metke. The Metke family lived in Swift Current while farming in the Cadillac area until Murray was 2, when they moved to Downey, California. Ten years later, after many years of traveling back to help on the farm, Murray and his father moved back to Swift Current. After his school years, Murray continued on the farm, married his first wife Cindy, and had two children — Christina and Matthew. In 1980, Murray became the owner of Starlite Motosports, where many of his customers became lifelong friends. He enjoyed Tuesday night motorcycle rides and being active in the local gun club. In 1993, Murray met and married his second wife, Carol, and shortly thereafter adopted her three children — Carrie (13), Twila (11), and Travis (6).
After selling Starlite and enjoying a few years of retirement, Murray excitedly joined his close friend and brother-in-law, Menno, in the shop at Canadian Tire. This gave him the opportunity to do two things he loved — fix things, but most importantly, socialize. Murray treasured time with his family and always enjoyed playing cards, board games, and going on camping trips. He loved to go shopping, both for the thrill of finding a deal and for the chance to visit with old friends or make new ones. Murray’s unique sense of humour and his big, hearty laugh are two of the many things that he will always be remembered for. Murray loved watching his family grow and always felt beyond grateful for the love from all his children and grandchildren. Over the years, Murray’s love of Jesus grew deeper and deeper, becoming the primary focus of both his marriage and his life. After years of feeling unworthy, Murray came to a greater understanding of the profound grace of God which led him to take the step of baptism. There was nothing that Murray wanted more than to share the love of Jesus with everyone who knew him.
Murray is survived by his wife, Carol, of 28 years; his daughter, Christina (Adrian) and their children, Jade and Ledum; his daughter, Carrie (Curtis) and their children Kalem, Evan, and Alyssa; his son, Matthew; his daughter, Twila (Jeff) and their children, Logan, Kaden, and Jace; his son, Travis (Maggie); his mother-in-law, Elsie; his niece, Barbara; and by his nephew ,Curtis.
Murray was predeceased by his dad, Ewald; his mom, Mabel; his sister, Bernice; his father-in-law, Abe; and by his brother-in-law, Bob.
"But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved." Ephesians 2:4-5
