Myrna Andres Obituary

Myrna Andres, age 71, was called home into the presence of the Lord on Thursday, October 16, 2025 following a long and difficult battle with a degenerative muscle disease.

Myrna Loy Andres was born on August 20, 1954 in Vanguard, SK, the first child of Henry & Lois Hildebrandt. Myrna’s early years were spent in Africa. She moved with her family to Kenya in 1957 where her parents served with the Africa Inland Mission. There she attended Rift Valley Academy boarding school in Kijabe until the family returned to Saskatchewan in 1972. After graduating from Caronport High School in 1973, Myrna went on to study at the Galt School of Nursing in Lethbridge, AB. After graduating with a Registered Nurse (RN) diploma in 1976, Myrna began her nursing career at the Herbert Hospital, Herbert, SK in 1977, where she would faithfully serve for almost 40 years. Myrna married Edward Andres, son of Peter & Mary Andres, on November 4, 1978. They settled on the family farm five miles northeast of Herbert and were blessed with two children. Myrna & Ed sold the farm in 2005 and settled in Herbert, where Myrna continued to serve as an RN at the Herbert & District Integrated Health Facility until she fully retired sometime around 2016.

Myrna & Ed spent many memorable summers at Herbert Ferry Park where they enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and many family gatherings. Beginning in 2010 until 2016, they took advantage of the warm winter weather at their home in Florence, Arizona. They were fond of travelling and enjoyed cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, and the Panama Canal, with the occasional trip to Disneyland.

Myrna was a talented and passionate seamstress who enjoyed many hours sewing, knitting, and quilting. In her retirement years, she dedicated much of her time to the Herbert MCC and later to the New Beginnings Thrift stores. In 2016, she helped establish “The Sewing Room” in the old Herbert Town Office, where a group of ladies (and a few men) met to sew quilts and assemble Infant Relief Kits that were donated around the world to help those in need.

Although not formally diagnosed with a form of muscular dystrophy until September 2025, Myrna began to exhibit signs of muscular degeneration as early as 2016. Her deteriorating health prompted the move from Herbert to Strathmore, AB in July 2025 to be closer to her children and to medical care.

Myrna was predeceased by her father, Henry Hildebrandt; parents-in-law, Peter & Mary Andres; and by brothers-in-law, Pete Andres and Arnold Funk. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband of nearly 47 years, Ed; two children, a daughter, Pamela, and a son, Michael; two grandchildren, Charlotte and Carter; her mother, Lois Hildebrandt; two brothers, Dale (Sony) Hildebrandt and Doug (Karen) Hildebrandt; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Diane) Andres and Bernie (Brenda) Andres; sisters-in-law, Carol Andres, Elsie Funk, and Marlene (Ellery) Janz; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Although we will miss her greatly, we rejoice in knowing that Myrna is no longer in pain and is now with the Lord, whom she loved and served.
