Nellie Funk Obituary

Nellie (Eleanora) Funk, age 102, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 15, 2026, at home in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. Nellie Funk was born on February 23, 1924, at home in Manitoba to Isaac & Sara (Neustaeter) Hildebrand. She grew up on the family farm and, after the loss of her mother, Mom at age 13, took on the responsibility of running the household for her father and brothers. When she was 16, her father remarried, and in the following years her precious half-siblings Agnes, Jack, Margaret and Hank were born. Nellie developed a love of sewing at a very early age and used her talents to care for her family and serve others. She worked as a cook and events planner at Ravenscourt Boys School in Winnipeg. She married Jake Funk on April 21, 1946, and together they built a life centered on faith, family, and farming. Nellie was a devoted mother and homemaker who found joy in cooking, gardening, and hospitality, welcoming many to her table. Her faith in Jesus Christ was central to her life. She faithfully prayed for her husband, who, in 1958, came to understand that it is by grace we are saved through Jesus Christ. Nellie is lovingly remembered by her children: Paul (Betty), Eleanor (Gary), Elaine, Richard (Hazel), Fred (Gwen), Walter, and Sharon; her grandchildren: Donna (Blaine), David (Arden), Connie (Jeff), Steven, Todd (Tanya), Amy Beth (Luke), Rebecca (Graham), Christie (Andy), Nathan (Cindy), Daniel (Alisa), Andrew (Silke), Joel (Renee), Jesse, and Willow (Chuck); her 35 great-grandchildren; and her seven great-great-grandchildren. Nellie was predeceased by her husband, Jake, in 1983; her great-grandson, Tony; her parents, Isaac and Sara Hildebrand; her brothers, Isaac, Aaron, Cornelius, and Abe, and their wives; and by her sister, Agnes. Mom is the last of her generation to pass away on both sides of our family. Her talents and vision were endless and made her a special and incredible person. We will miss her imagination and storytelling skills. She will be remembered for her enthusiasm, creativity, strength, humour, and her deep love for family and God.
