Peter Driedger

Peter Driedger, age 95, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 22, 2023 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK surrounded by his daughters.

Peter is survived by his five children, Brenda (Rueben) Schulz (Gouldtown, SK), Debbie (Ron) Klassen (Swift Current, SK), Dale (Pam) Driedger (Lloydminster, AB), Cheryl (Kent) Parlee (Airdrie, AB), and Peggy (Mel) Chorney (Pilot Butte, SK). Peter was blessed with twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren –  Dean Klassen, Alison Hughes (Ken) (Lane: Emmet, Ellia, and Callie; Destinee and Dylan), Melissa (Todd) Lake (Zachary and Selah), Aaron Schulz (Annabelle, Caleb, and Joshua), David (Kathryn) Schulz (Matthew and Emma), Sean (Kathleen) Parlee (Ayla and Harrison), Brandon Driedger (Aiden), Mitchell (Heather) Parlee, Alanna Parlee (Robynn), Tyler Driedger, Tianna Chorney, and Natalia Chorney. Peter is survived by his sister, Myrtle (Clarence) Zacharias; his sister-in-law, Odella Driedger; and by his brothers-in-law, Don (Darlene) Shygera and Brian (Jennifer) Shygera.

Peter was predeceased by his loving wife, Louise, in 1996; his great-grandson, Tanner Hughes, in 2017; and by numerous extended family members and friends.

Peter Erwin Driedger was born on November 7, 1927 in Herbert, SK to Peter & Justina Driedger. He loved to tell stories of his childhood and about attending the Pony Butte School. Peter married Louise Shygera in 1952 and together, they farmed in the Gouldtown, SK district until 1986. Peter & Louise enjoyed their retirement years in Swift Current and continued to volunteer in their church, were active members of the Gideons, bowled in the local league, opened their home to entertain family and friends, and enjoyed many traveling adventures together.

Peter’s personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ was evident, right until his very last breath. Peter was known to all by his friendly smile, chuckle, and love of reminiscing from days gone by. Later in life, he enjoyed activities at the Bentley and Riverview, especially when he could win chocolate bars at bingo. Peter was easy-going, gracious, and appreciated those who cared for him.

Peter was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew him.

The Celebration of Life for Peter Driedger was held on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 2:00 pm from Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK with Donovan Epp officiating. “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “How Great Thou Art” were sung by the congregation, with Diane Peters serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Donovan Epp. The eulogy was given by Ron Klassen. The family tribute was given by Ron Klassen. The ushers in the church were Harry Friesen and Isaac Harder. The Private Family Interment Service was held prior to the service from Herbert Cemetery, Herbert, SK with Peter’s grandchildren, Aaron Schulz, David Schulz, Melissa Lake, Dean Klassen, Alison Hughes, Sean Parlee, Mitchell Parlee, Alanna Parlee, Brandon Driedger, Tyler Driedger, Tianna Chorney, and Natalia Chorney serving as Pallbearers.
