Peter Weber Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our sweet husband, Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa. Peter Weber passed away surrounded by his loving family in the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at the age of 91. Peter was born in Scott, SK on April 24, 1933, to Jacob and Margaret Weber, the eighth of twelve children. Being the second oldest son in the family he took on the protector role at a very young age, when his eldest brother went off to war. He received his education in Scott and Wilkie, SK. As a teenager, he worked for a butcher, raced horses and enjoyed performing in school plays. He studied and received several certifications in the trades.

He married the love of his life, Theresa Sander on February 4, 1957, in Wilkie. They were blessed with 3 children while living in Wilkie: Belinda, Shannon, and Darrell. He worked for the railroad in Wilkie and started his power engineering career at the airport in Saskatoon, SK. In 1963, they moved to Swift Current, SK and was the Director of Engineering at the Swift Current Union Hospital until his retirement in 1996. They were blessed with 3 more children while living in Swift Current: Jacqueline, Lorelei, and Alison. He was involved with community activities and his love for children was evident when he helped build a new playground apparatus and an outdoor skating rink on the school yard. He coached baseball and hockey and was a linesman in the WHL skating along side the likes of Bryan Trottier, Dave ‘Tiger’ Williams, and Terry Ruskowski. He also played the games he loved. He played hockey on a RCMP hockey team, in the commercial hockey league and with the Swift Current Oldtimers hockey team. He played ball with the hospital men’s fastball team and later slow-pitch. While being involved in Oldtimers hockey, he enjoyed the fitness and competitive side of it but also enjoyed the camaraderie and the lifelong friendships he made. He enjoyed the travel with the team to many places such as Victoria, Peterborough, Copenhagen, Anaheim and Halifax. In his retirement years, fitness was always a priority as he expanded his athletic ability. As a senior he competed in several Saskatchewan Senior Games winning many gold medals for his efforts. As well, he was a master woodworker; building guitars, glider horses and many more keepsakes that are now such treasures for the family. He was a meticulous record keeper in maintaining his house, yard, fences, and vehicles. Nothing went to waste until multiple efforts were made to fix or repair it. Throughout his life, music was an integral part of family gatherings playing the organ, accordion, guitars and various harmonicas. Peter was a gifted man, but his greatest love was always his family and God.

He had a quiet faith, and a deep love of God and Jesus. From an infant, he was raised as a child of God. This showed through in everything he did and everything he created. Knowing how strongly he lived his faith is what gives the family comfort and peace in his passing. His faith was steadfast and unwavering and his last spoken words, initiated on his own, were the Lord’s Prayer.

Peter leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife Theresa of 67 years, his six children: Belinda (Gerry) Ibrahim of Calgary, AB; Shannon (Eric) Wittrock of Medicine Hat, AB; Darrell (Sharon Fonger) Weber of Swift Current, SK; Jacqueline (Russ) Siemens of Swift Current, SK; Lorelei (Gary) Busch of Medicine Hat, AB and Alison (Ryan) Jackson of Medicine Hat, AB; his grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Michael (Allie Hamilton) Ibrahim of Columbus, OH and their daughter Elle; Denise (Martin) D’Sa of Calgary, AB and their daughters, Lana and Ashlyn; Bryce Wittrock of Edmonton, AB; Evan Wittrock of Edmonton, AB; Colten (Jori) Siemens of Swift Current, SK; Marshall (Mary) Siemens of Swift Current, SK and their sons Caleb and Lucas; Matthew Jackson (Avery Smyth) of Medicine Hat, AB; and Emilee (Kanen) Krushel of Medicine Hat, AB; Angela (Ed) Hyatt and family of Sunnybrae, BC; Ed (Cara) and family of Swift Current, SK. Peter is also survived by his brother Casey (Madge) Weber of Duncan, BC and his sister Nancy (Edward) Schwab of Unity, SK, his sisters-in-law: Mary Schmidt of Victoria, BC; Elaine Sander of Saskatoon, SK and his brother-in-law: George Heisler of Saskatoon, SK and numerous nieces and nephews.
