It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Phil Schlamp, age 92, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, May 10, 2024. He passed away peacefully with his family by his side.
Philip Schlamp “Dad” was born on March 13, 1932, at Rhineland SK to Jacob & Katherina Schlamp. He was the third of 6 children. Dad grew up in Rhineland and also attended school there.
As a young man, Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith. He met Margaret Friesen of Neuhofnung, SK in 1950 and they were married by Rev. Peter Schlamp on November 2, 1952. Dad & Mom made several moves during their marriage including east of Rhineland, SK, Gouldtown, SK, and Saint Laurent, MB. In 1956 they moved to the farm in the Swift Current area and eventually they moved to the city in November 1987.
In addition to his love for farming, Dad worked various positions at the Pioneer Co-op, including delivering groceries and working at the farm centre, and also driving school bus. After moving to the city, Dad worked at Peavey Mart for many years.
Dad & Mom were blessed with two daughters and three sons, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and another great-grandchild expected in July.
The grandchildren have fond memories of spending time with Grandpa. They enjoyed playing games, pizza and pop, and Dairy Queen trips. Dad enjoyed family, nature, and spending time at various parks, especially at Cypress Hills. He thoroughly enjoyed music, whether singing or just listening. He was a song leader in the church for many years.
After Mom’s passing in 2001, Dad married Margaret Giesbrecht on July 4th, 2009. They enjoyed spending time together, doing puzzles, and volunteering at the MCC for many years. Dad enjoyed refurbishing items for the MCC for resale rather than discarding them.
Due to Dad’s failing health, he moved to the Meadows in April 2023. During his time there, Dad & Margaret attended many music events. Dad never lost his sense of humour and enjoyed teasing the staff and family. Dad also enjoyed spending time in God’s Word and praying for his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dad was predeceased by his first wife; an infant daughter; his parents; a brother; two sisters; and by numerous in-laws.
Dad is survived by his daughter; his three sons; their spouses; his grandchildren and their spouses; his great-grandchildren; his second wife; and many of her family members.
