It is with full hearts that we share the death of Bob Jackson, age 88, a cherished dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend, who left this world on Friday, November 14th, 2025, the same way he lived – calmly, gently and with a quiet strength that steadied everyone around him.
Bob was born on October 4, 1937, in Cabri, SK and grew up on the family farm north-east of Cabri. As a young teen he worked with his dad and mom, making farming his career in 1955. In 1968, he followed in his father’s footsteps, returning to Hemmingford, Quebec to wed Mary Marlin. The happy couple returned to Cabri to build their life together. Marlene was born in 1970, and the twins, Donna and Douglas were born in 1971.
He built his life around the three ‘F’s’: Family, Friends and Farming. These were his compass, his joy, and his legacy. His stubborn streak, well-known to those close to him, was always matched with a gentle wit that could lighten the heaviest moments. His kindness was constant and unassuming.
To his family, he was a loving father, always steady, accepting and endlessly supportive. He taught by example, showing that contentment is found not in having more, but in appreciating what you already have. His wisdom was simple and profound, drawn from a life lived close to the earth, his community and the people he loved most.
Community was important to Bob. He was very proud to achieve a Life Membership with the Cabri Lions Club in 2022, with perfect attendance as long as he was able.
In July 2022, Bob moved into the Prairie Health Care Centre. Keeping his house in Cabri meant his family could visit on the weekends, sharing many special meals, card games, crop tours, and drives to the farm. Nightly calls and online Trickster card games also kept him connected with his family.
Although Parkinson’s Disease was robbing him of his independence and mobility, he remained determined (“You don’t have to help me, just don’t hinder me.”). His family teased him that he was on about life number 20 (like a cat with nine lives).
Bob will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Marlene (Paul) – their children, Chloe and Elise: and Donna (Dave); and his son, Doug (Rona) – their children, Kyle and Reed; his sisters, Merle Oldhaver and Grace Winkler; in-laws, Ruth (Fernand) Chalifoux and Ralph (Carolyn) Marlin; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and by many life-long and recent friends; as well as his beloved cat, Libby.
He was predeceased by his wife of 51 years, Mary; his parents, Doug & Geneva Jackson; a sister, Mary Barber; an infant brother, Wilmer; parents-in-law, George & Ethel Marlin; and Mary’s siblings: Howard, Muriel, Isabella, Ross and their spouses.
We will honour Dad by carrying forward the values he lived so naturally – kindness, patience, humour, humility and love. His presence remains in the lives he shaped, the community he strengthened, and the stories that will be told for years to come. His was a life well lived, a life well loved, and a life that will be deeply missed.
A heart-felt thank you to the staff of the Prairie Health Care Centre for the care they gave dad over the last three and a half years, especially their compassionate care the last days of his life.
A Celebration of Bob’s Life and Interment will be held at a later date. In memory of Bob Jackson, donations made to the Cabri Lions Club, Box 200, Cabri, SK, S0N 0J0, would be appreciated by the family.
