Ron Munro Obituary

Ron Munro, age 83, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Clover House in Swift Current, SK. Ronald Douglas Munro was born November 16, 1934 to Cecil D & Agnes J. Munro in Neepawa, MB. Ron grew up on the family farm in Heston, MB until the fall of 1943, when the family moved to his father’s family farm in Cantuar, SK. He received his schooling in Manitoba, Flats School in the Cantuar/Success District, St. Joan of Arc Academy (convent) in Swift Current, the Swift Current Collegiate Institute, and the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, SK.

From high school graduation in 1952 until the fall of 1969, Ron farmed in Cantuar. Upon the sale of the family farm, Ron moved to Swift Current, where he worked, owned, or operated various businesses until his retirement in 1999. Many will remember Ron as “Mr. Bingo,” as he worked at, owned, and managed the local Bingo hall for many years. Ron joined the Swift Current Lions Club, where he served for 40 years and received several awards for his service — he was inducted into the Lion’s Hall of Fame in 2012. He enjoyed going to the Swift Current Indians (now 57’s) baseball games, attending Bronco games, and attending and watching World Curling.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Susanna; his stepson, Clement (Ottawa, ON); his two daughters, Karen and Susan, from a previous marriage; and by Stacey (Swift Current, SK), and Tyler (Swift Current, SK), also from a previous marriage. Ron was predeceased by his parents, Cecil D. & Agnes J. Munro; and by his sister, A. Sharon Hall.

The Private Graveside Service for Ron Munro will be held at a later date from Memory Gardens Cemetery, Swift Current, SK. In memory of Ron Munro, donations made to Clover House at The Meadows, care of the Swift Current Lion’s Club (155 3rd Ave NE, Swift Current, SK, S9H 2J3), would be appreciated by the family.
