Roy Deobald Obituary

Roy Deobald, age 87, passed away from a brief illness on Saturday, June 28, 2025 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, with his children by his side.

Roy was born on September 17, 1937 on the family farm in the Flowing Well District, the eldest son of Phillip & Marie Deobald. He attended the Fair Valley School until Grade 9 and then high school in Hodgeville where he completed his Grade 12. After high school he worked for a few farmers in the Kelstern and Uren areas. Roy then moved to Moose Jaw in 1956 and worked for Moose Jaw Plumbing & Heating and in 1957 he went to work as an orderly at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital.

On September 23, 1958 Roy married Kathleen Drysdale. This union was blessed with three children, Kevin in 1961, Michele in 1962, and Gary in 1964. Roy & Kathleen resided in Moose Jaw until 1966 when they moved to Chaplin where Roy worked for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool. They lived in various places, 1969 – 1974 in Blumenhof, 1974 – 1979 in Central Butte, 1979 – 1994 in Shaunavon, and in 1994 Roy retired and they moved to Swift Current where he resided until his passing. In spring he would go to Hodgeville and run the cleaner at the elevator, and during the summer months he worked as an adjuster for Municipal Hail.

Roy will be lovingly remembered by his children, Kevin Deobald (Bernie), Michele Wall (Tom), and Gary Deobald (Trina); his grandchildren, Devon Deobald (Christina), Dana Thiessen (Logan), Shaun Wall, Allison Wall, Brady Deobald (Kelsi), and Brett Deobald; his great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Nora Thiessen, Willa and Andi Deobald; his brother & sister-in-law, Johnny Deobald (Marlene), in-laws, Janet Davison (Jerry), Irene Smith (Ron), Muriel Drysdale, and Star Deobald; and by numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen; his granddaughter, Sara Wall; his parents, Phillip & Marie Deobald; his parents-in-law, Lawrence & Mary Drysdale; a sister & brother-in-law, Eleanor Gleim (Gordon); a brother & sister-in-law, Harvey Deobald (Barbara); a brother, Ralph Deobald; and by his nephews, Jamie Deobald, Darren Deobald, Trevor Gleim, and Curtis Gleim.

The family would like to thank all the medical staff at the Cypress Regional Hospital that were involved in Roy’s care. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
