Sara Froese Obituary

On Sunday, March 1, 2020 Sara Froese (nee Braun), age 92, of Regina and formerly of Swift Current, SK went to be with her Lord, passing away at the Wascana Grace Hospice, Regina, SK.

Sara was born November 23, 1927 to Jacob & Agatha Braun at Beechy, SK. She attended Neasden School and completed grade 9. She took correspondence lessons after that with the assistance of  brother- in- law Jake Sawatzsky. She attended Bible School in Herbert for a year and was baptized in 1947. Sara and Shirley Quiring (a close friend from Lucky Lake) travelled to B.C. to pick berries, and it was during this trip that she met Henry Froese.

They were married in August of 1950. Sara returned to the prairies in June of 1961 with her three children and Dean on the way, born one month later. They resided in Beechy on the farm for one year and then moved to Swift Current when the school year was done. It was a busy time for a single parent of four, but we all thrived. Sara's top priority was to ensure we attended church  regularly, we became part of a great church family as well as being part of a wonderful extended family of relatives. Her faith was what saw her through difficult times, especially raising four children on her own during a time when that was highly unusual. Sara saw her children through weddings and the births of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In March 2017, her beloved son- in- law, David, passed away. She loved to talk about how he meticulously hung all her pictures in her new place in Regina. Sara left Swift Current after residing there for over fifty years in the fall of 2015. She settled into Storie Manor, made wonderful friendships, and enjoyed her time there. Over the years Sara enjoyed gardening, photography, bird watching, and had a keen interest in nature — keeping close watch on the weather. She loved to document details, jotting down the high and low temperatures, as well as keeping journals and filling in calendars for many years.

Spending time outdoors was a favourite, especially with her beloved cousins, Agnes and Annie Barg. They loved to camp and walk in the Matador ranch close to Beechy. Sara also loved canning, her generosity saw her sharing many a jar of pickles and fruit. Sara volunteered at the Pioneer Lodge in Swift Current,  she also taught Sunday School at Trailview Alliance church for years as well. Sara and Dean travelled to B.C. in Deans teen years. She also went to Calgary, Regina, and Saskatoon visiting family. Sara was an avid Greyhound bus customer, enjoying many trips to visit family, especially once grandchildren came along. Sara and Debbie travelled to Banff in honour of her 75th birthday. She knew the birthdates of all her nieces and nephews, and loved sending cards.

Sara sustained a major injury to her leg upon falling when a thirsty passerby requested a drink of water. It was a major disappointment when she was no longer able to walk without pain due to this injury as well as back pain. Once in Regina, Sara, Pat, and Debbie enjoyed countless long drives in Pat’s new ride, often ending up at the Vintage Tea Room — Sara's new favourite restaurant. Sara's faith, her family, and her role as mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother were most important to her. Being with her family was what Sara enjoyed most of all.

Sara was predeceased by her brothers, John and Cornie; her sisters, Katie and Henrietta; and by her sister and brothers-in-law, Jake Sawatsky, Allen, and Mary.

Sara leaves to mourn her four children, Pat (David, predeceased), Dale (Sharon), Debbie, and Dean (Julie); her grandchildren, Andrea (Aaron), Jonathan (Kristyn), Andrew (Kathy), Rob, James, Brittany (Justin), and Marshal; her great-grandchildren, Julian, Eve, Jackson, Parker, and Evelie; her sisters, Betty, Leona (Dale), and Agatha; her brother, Jake (Joyce); and by her sister-in-law, Myrna.
