It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Shawn McMillan, age 46, on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, surrounded by his family.
Shawn Michael Thomas McMillan was born on May 5, 1979 in Maple Creek, SK to Irene & Doug McMillan, the third of four children. He grew up on the family farm in Consul before moving with his family to Gull Lake in 1993 and to Pennant in 1994. He attended high school in Cabri, where he met the love of his life, Benita Nelson. They began dating in 1995 and were married on August 12, 2000. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure, raising three children, Sarah (2004), Lucas (2007), and Barrie (2013).
Shawn graduated from the University of Regina with a degree in Geography and went on to a career in the oilfield industry as an operator in the Gull Lake area. Shawn & Benita first lived in Carmichael before moving to an acreage south of town.
Family was at the center of Shawn’s life. He loved planning family trips, especially to Disney World, as well as traveling to Disneyland, Las Vegas, New York, Banff, Lake Louise, West Edmonton Mall, Vancouver, Miami, Europe (Germany and Italy), NASCAR races, Saskatchewan Roughriders football games, and Edmonton Oilers hockey were also among his greatest passions. He recently completed his man cave, a space he loved to share with friends and family.
Shawn was predeceased by his infant daughter, Grace; and by his father, Doug. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Benita; their children, Sarah, Lucas, and Barrie; his mother, Irene (James); a sister, Rachel; brothers, Tracy (Michelle), and Jamie; parents-in-law, Kent & Cindy Nelson; siblings-in-law, Honni (Daniel), Ginny, Cassie (Nick), Taylor (Kwanita), Kenna (Chris), Barrie, and Kaylyn (Andrew); and many nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Shawn.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Jason Gatzke, Home Care nurses Kirsten and Lana, and the many health care providers in Saskatoon, Swift Current, and Regina, especially the ICU staff at the Pasqua Hospital for their care and compassion.
