Shirley Friesen Obituary

Shirley (Hildebrandt) Friesen, age 81, passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK. Shirley Martha Friesen was born on June 14, 1942 in Steinbach, MB to Henry & Agnes Hildebrandt, the second of twelve siblings. Shirley started school in Osler, SK but the family soon moved to Patricia, AB for a short while, before settling in Tilley, AB where Shirley finished elementary and high school. Following high school, Shirley attended Millar College of the Bible where she met her future husband, Bill Friesen. Shirley moved to Edmonton to train as a nurse. After her graduation she worked in the Edmonton Hospital. Shirley and Bill Friesen were married in 1971 at Bassano, AB. Shirley then moved to Bill’s farm at Schoenfeld, SK. Shirley first was employed at the Swift Current Union Hospital and later at the Swift Current Care Centre. In addition to her Nursing work, she enjoyed helping with farm work and driving the school bus. Shirley joined the Rhineland Christian Fellowship Church, taking an active role in hosting visiting missionaries, leading a women’s Bible Study, hosting ladies Tuesday morning prayer meetings, and helping with the Jr High group in the Awana program from when it started in 1976 until 2020. Shirley went to be with Jesus on the evening of Friday, May 24, 2024 following a heart attack. Shirley is survived by her husband, Bill; her sisters, Freda, Edith, Alice, Lynda, Sharon, Virginia, and Carolyn; her brothers, Gerald and Lloyd; and by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry & Agnes; by her brother, Harvey; and by her sister, Rosie. The one who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. Psalm 91:1.

The Funeral Service was held on Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 2:00 pm from the Rhineland Christian Fellowship Church, Rhineland, SK with Pastor Tim Knelsen officiating. “The Solid Rock” was played for the processional. The pianist for the service was Sarah Quartel. “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “He Leadeth Me” were sung by the congregation under the direction Pastor Owen Retzlaff. The obituary was read by Sharlene Dunnett with tributes shared by Jolene Ohlmann and Kara Cao, and by a Slideshow Presentation. Special music was brought by the Ler Lah Family & Pleasant Hill Church. “Christ Our Hope in Life and Death” lyric video was played for the recessional. The ushers in the church were Gordon Peters, Gary Tschetter, Justin Dyck, and Dale Friesen. Honorary Pallbearers were Shirley’s Siblings. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Rhineland Christian Fellowship Church Cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers, Derek Ohlmann, Kendal Dunnett, Tate Cao, Roy Knelsen, Keith Trudeau, and Steve Peters.
