Susan Knelsen, age 95 years, went to be with her Lord and Savior at Cypress House in Swift Current on Thursday, October 13, 2022. Susan ‘Susie’ Knelsen was born on August 23, 1927 at SW 26 40 5 W of 3rd near Hepburn, SK, the youngest of Aron & Helena Guenter’s large family. Susie attended Steele School which was only half a mile from her home up to grade 7, and then stayed home to help due to her mother’s poor health.
Her mother loved music so they did lots of singing while they worked. Susie started her Christian education early in life with correspondence courses, scripture memorization, and her father reading the Bible to her in the winter evenings. She received Christ as her personal Savior at a young age and was baptized upon confession of her faith on June 16, 1946.
Susie met Jake Knelsen at a sister’s wedding and after a long-distance relationship for a few years, they were married on December 15, 1946. They set out to make a home of their own starting off with their four-day trip from Saskatoon to McMahon. Susie always helped with whatever farm work needed to be done, whether it be milking cows, driving tractors, or taking meals out to the field. She also loved gardening and always had a plentiful vegetable harvest.
Susie was a charter member of the Christian Fellowship Church where she was actively involved. Susie was always looking for someone to help or a lonely person to befriend. Food was always plentiful at her home, if you left there hungry it was not her fault. After Susie & Jake retired from the farm they did volunteer work at several organizations. Susie had a kind heart and always had a smile. She was willing to lend a helping hand wherever she could.
Susie is survived by her son, Gordon (Lois) Knelsen, their children, Myron (Amanda) Knelsen – Daillin and Brooklyn; Melissa (Denny) Willems – Samuel, Jairus, Malachi and Zachary; Marvin (Sammi-Jo) Knelsen – Jake; her son, Roy (Leona) Knelsen, their children, Kathy (Dan) Dueck; Tim (Heather) Knelsen – Braden, Cole and Kinsley. She was predeceased by her husband, Jake; her parents; and by all her siblings and in-laws.
We would like to thank the staff at Cypress House for caring for mom, especially in the last few months.
