Susana “Susie” Dyck, age 90, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 at the Herbert & District Integrated Healthcare Facility, Herbert, SK.
Mom was born Susana Dueck to Franz & Katherina Dueck on September 13, 1931 in the Main Centre area, SK. She grew up on the farm, the sixth of nine children — Anna, John, Deidrich “Dick,” Mary, Gertrude, Susie, Frank, Ben, and Elizabeth. Mom attended Lobenthal School and was baptized in the Sommerfeld Church.
Mom met Henry Funk and they were married in August of 1949, they lived and farmed near Gouldtown, SK. Together, they had seven children — Mary Driedger, Margaret (Dennis) Epp, Susan (Harold) Dueck, Tina (John) Janzen, Evelyn (Ray) Dueck, Willy (Martha) Funk, and Edith (Marlin) Thiessen.
Mom had much love for all of her twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-two great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Including spouses and significant others, Susie leaves a legacy of one hundred and twenty-four people.
Mom and Dad were married for thirty-one years until his passing on May 31, 1981. Six years later, she married Paul Dyck on May 30, 1987. They lived on his farm near Gouldtown until 2007, when they moved to Herbert.
Mom enjoyed many years of good health and found joy in her work and hobbies — from milking cows, tending her large gardens, crocheting an afghan for every grandchild, sewing countless baby blankets, and of course, baking her famous cookies.
Mom is survived by her seven children; a long list of grandchildren; her great and great-great-grandchildren; her husband, Paul; her sister, Elizabeth; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry; a son-in-law; a great-grandson; her parents; and by seven of her siblings.
The Funeral Service for Susie Dyck was held on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 1:30 pm from Living Faith Fellowship Church, Herbert, SK with Pastor Lincoln Vellacott officiating. “He Hideth My Soul,” “Victory in Jesus,” and “All the Way My Savior Leads Me” were sung by the congregation under the leadership of Pastor Lincoln Vellacott, with Jill Janzen (granddaughter) serving as pianist. Special music was brought by Kevin Janzen (grandson). The obituary was read by Elaine Schapansky (granddaughter). Tributes were given by Edith Thiessen (daughter), Susie’s grandchildren, and by Bob Dyck (brother-in-law). The ushers in the church were Aaron Dueck, Isaac Harder, and Harold Gerbrandt. The recessional was “Heaven Song” by Phil Wickham.
The Interment Service was held immediately following the Funeral Service at the Gouldtown Cemetery, Gouldtown, SK with Ben Dueck, Curtis Funk, Barb Neufeld, Mike Janzen, Josh Thiessen, Brittany Epp, and Dan Dueck serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers were all of Susie’s grandchildren. “Amazing Grace” was sung by those in attendance.
