Susanna “Susie” Fortman, age 100, passed away peacefully on Thursday March 18, 2021 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK.
Susie was born on January 23, 1921 to Abram & Margaretha Klassen in Beaver Flat, SK — the seventh of twelve children in the Klassen family. Growing up couldn’t have been easy, but all her stories ended with laughter.
We were fortunate to have been able to celebrate her 100th birthday in January of this year. At 90, she wanted to go horseback riding but we weren’t able to make that happen, but for 100 we were able to take her for a wagon ride. The smile on her face said it all, and she had plans to go again when it was warmer. She was going to ask for the faster team this time, and probably would have tried to talk them into letting her drive as well.
Susie is survived by her children, Reg (Sandi) Fortman, Sandra Dickie (Bruce), and Kelly Fortman; her grandchildren, Nicky-Jo (Lane) Forbes and Leighton Dickie (Terra); her great-grandchildren, Brittany (Catlin), Dylan, Braden (Jon), Sydney, Hayley, Samantha, and Nickolas; her great-great-grandchildren, Addison and Bo; her sister, Ruby (Al) Kleps; her sisters-in-law, Helen Klassen and Olga Klassen; and by many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Susie was predeceased by George Fortman; her parents, Abram & Margaretha Klassen; her siblings, David (Lydia) Klassen, Elsie (Herman) Klassen, Ed (Luella) Klassen, Katie (Dan) Klaassen, Linda Klassen, Ernie (Irma) Klassen, Frank Klassen, Helen (Graham) Wotherspoon, Archie (Frances) Klassen, Gladys (Art) Yerex; and sadly by several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The Private Family Graveside Service for Susanna “Susie” Fortman was held on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 from the Turnhill Cemetery, Beaver Flatt, SK with Pastor Kevin Snyder officiating. Tributes and Scripture were read by Jill Cavanagh, a longtime friend of Susie.
Kelly Fortman, Leighton Dickie, Lane Forbes, Braden Forbes, Bruce Hollett, and Catlin Hendous served as Pallbearers.
In memory of Susie Fortman, donations may be made to Turnhill Cemetery c/o Connie Klassen (Waldeck, SK, S0H 4J0) or to Eastside Church of God (2105 Adams St, Swift Current, SK, S9H 3X6) would be appreciated by the family.
As Susie would say, “Remember me with a smile!”
