Susie Zacharias Obituary

Susanna “Susie” (Ens) Zacharias, age 93, passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK with her family by her side.

Susie was born July 13, 1927 to Peter & Margaret Ens in Blumenhof, SK. She grew up in Blumehof and lived there until she was married. Along with doing chores, she helped run the family General Store and Post office in Blumenhof. She attended school in Blumenhof and participated in track and field. Even though she was small in stature, she was very strong. She was also a fast runner and won the girls provincial track and field medal for the most points in Saskatchewan the same year that her brother, Frank, won it for the boys.

Susie accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age and was baptized at Lac Pelletier, SK as a teenager. She loved children and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years, as well as babysitting for many in the community.

Susie married Frank Zacharias of McMahon, SK on August 7, 1960 in the Chortitz EMC Church, where they faithfully attended and served for many years. She continued to teach Sunday School and served in other areas such as Ladies Aid making blankets to send overseas with MCC. Frank & Susie lived in the original house on the farm for three years until 1963. They then built a new house on the farm near McMahon. Here, they raised their family of six children — Sandra, Freda, Dennis, Connie, Verna, and Sheila. Susie enjoyed the farm life and was a very hard worker in everything that she did — gardening, canning, milking cows, raising chickens, sewing, crocheting, cooking hearty delicious meals, and baking for family and friends.

Many people enjoyed coming for visits — they were always welcomed with warm hospitality and delicious food. Susie was known for her wonderful homemade buns, chocolate cake, and other goodies and jams — there was never a shortage of food. When people came for faspa or other meals, everyone enjoyed the fellowship around the table. As busy as life was for her on the farm, she always had a smile on her face and cherished all the times together as a family — whether it was working, attending church, or having a meal. Susie’s gentle and quiet ways as she served others around her was a true gift and a godly example.

Susanna leaves to cherish her memory her children and their families; her daughter, Sandi (Mike) Zacharias-Carr and their family, Ryan (Kelsey Vancuren) Wiebe (their children, Payton and Ashlynn), Byron Wiebe (his daughter, Olivia), and Kelly (Jade Baiton) Wiebe; her daughter, Freda (Arnold) Rempel and their family, Kimberly (Yommer Charalla) Rempel, Josh (Stephanie) Rempel (their children, Sawyer, Gus, and Daisy), Jesse (Toni) Rempel (their children, Kamryn, Emrie, Wade, and Brooks), and Joel (Chelsea Brier) Rempel; her son, Dennis (Anita) Zacharias and their family, Tanis (Devin) Martens (their children, Aubrey, Jett, and Emmy), Alyssa (Nathan) Wiebe (their children, Theo, Finn, and Fern), and Darby (Beth) Zacharias; her daughter, Connie (Tim) Zacharias-Morris and their family, Jasmine (Chris) Notenboom, Jordan (Jenn) Lane, Colten Morris, Carson Morris, Riley Morris, and Amy (DJ) Morris (their son, Caleb); her daughter, Verna (Greg) Heuer, and their son, Sidney (Charlene) Heuer; her daughter, Sheila (Jim) Wiebe, and their family, Shyla (Geoff) Daoust, Taylor (Matt) Reimer, and Kelsey Wiebe; her siblings, Annie  Friesen and Jake (Sylvia) Ens; her sisters-in-law, Irene Ens, Kathleen Ens, Anna Dyck, and Erna Zacharias; her brothers-in-law, Pete Friesen, Dave (Verdella) Zacharias, and George Wall; and by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
