Todd Wiebe Obituary

Todd Ashley Wiebe, age 46, made his transition to heaven on the afternoon of Friday, August 8th, 2025, leaving Bed 16 of the 3rd floor of the CVICU, University of Alberta Hospital, Edmonton, AB.

Todd was born on June 5th, 1979, at Swift Current, SK, the youngest son to complete Reuben & Erna’s family of four. As an infant, it soon became apparent that Todd might have some health issues. This began a long journey for him and his family, seeking solutions for his congenital heart defects. As a child, Todd loved playing outside, riding the three-wheeler, or burning up the gravel on his pedal bike. Living close to cousins, he loved spending time with them and his siblings, playing outside for hours, skating on ponds, building forts, and living a carefree, normal childhood despite his many challenges.

After graduating from High School in Herbert, Todd moved to Swift Current, where he had several jobs working for farmers. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Amanda Reddekopp. Their first date was to A & W, where Mandy’s parents just happened to be having coffee! Later they remarked to her, “Well, at least he is clean shaven!”

Todd and Mandy were married on September 27, 2008 and resided in Herbert throughout their married life. Todd & Mandy were blessed with two beautiful children, Adrielle Catherine, born July 24, 2010, and Jesse Ruben John, born October 5th, 2012. Together, they built a lifetime of memories – boating and camping with Mandy’s parents and enjoying cheering for the kids during school sports season. Todd was proud of Adrielle’s accomplishments as a musician.

Todd was a good-natured, funny, and helpful family man. He helped whenever he could, with trucking at harvest and brandings every spring. He became a fantastic cook, and no one could serve roast beef quite like him. There was a love-hate relationship in the Wiebe household that began with Flames vs Leafs when Todd was a boy, that evolved into Flames vs Oilers, between Todd and Jesse! Todd and his family loved music, and especially the band For King + Country.

Todd spent 20 years as a dedicated employee of the Herbert Co-op. Rain or shine, he pumped people’s gas, washed their windows, and enjoyed the camaraderie that comes with community life. In 2021, his physical health had gotten to the point where his medical teams deemed him unwell to continue to work, and life became filled with adjustments, medical appointments, trips to the ER, and many other challenges. There were hard times and eventually Todd made the final flight to Edmonton, from RUH in Saskatoon, after going by ambulance from Swift Current, on June 23rd. After multiple teams and specialists conferred, it was determined on Friday, July 11th, that Todd’s best chance for survival would be an 8th open heart surgery to repair several valves and conduits.

On July 15th, after courageously agreeing to undergo such a risky, complicated operation, he did survive the more than 10-hour surgery. For the next 24 days, his family members took turns being bedside, praying, loving, and caring for Todd, while hundreds of family, friends and strangers prayed for Todd and his family. The one constant throughout his final chapter was his devoted wife, Mandy. Despite the confines of a hospital bed, they grew closer together in love and support. They truly exemplified what was promised in their wedding vows: in sickness and in health; till death do us part.
Todd went confidently into the arms of Jesus on Friday afternoon on August 8th, with his wife and his mother by his side. He will be forever loved, missed, and remembered for his courage, his humour, and his smile!

Todd leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Mandy; his precious children, Adrielle and Jesse; his mother, Erna Wiebe; his brother, Bruce Wiebe; his sisters, Charlotte (Dale) Peters, and Carolyn (Benjy) Brednich; his mother-in-law, Judy Reddekopp; his sister-in-law, Jaymie Freeman; his nieces and nephews Sophia and Ava Freeman: Mackenzie (Sterling) Tschetter, Kalen, and Camrynne Peters: Reece, Chase, Pierce, and Hudson Brednich; as well as Aunts, Uncles, and cousins.

He was predeceased by his grandparents; his father, Ruben, in 2004; and his father-in-law, John, in 2021.

The Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Restoration House Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Paul Cochrane officiating. Congregational songs were “How Good is He”, “This is Our God”, and “I’m Going Free (Jailbreak)” led by the Restoration House musicians led by Adrielle Wiebe. Scripture reading was read by Jaymie Freeman with Charlotte Peters and Carolyn Brednich reding the eulogy. Special music was brought by Adrielle Wiebe, “Worth the Pain”. Tributes were shared by Charlotte Peters, Carolyn Brednich, Mandy Wiebe, Ava Freeman, Sophia Freeman, and by a Slideshow tribute. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK.
