Verna Dyck, age 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend entered her eternal rest on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025 with her husband at her side. She passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
Verna Joan Dyck (née Peters) was born on November 11th, 1951 at the family farm in Schoenfeld, SK to Henry & Mary Peters. She was raised alongside her siblings Ruth, Sandra, John, and Dennis. Verna grew up surrounded by the values of hard work, faith and family, and from an early age she carried with her a deep love for people and an unmatched ability to bring comfort to those around her.
On November 7th, 1970 Verna married the love of her life, John Dyck. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and generosity. Verna’s greatest joy came with the adoption of their children, a son, Jeffrey (Bethany) in 1980 and a daughter, Jillian in 1985. She cherished them deeply and poured her heart into motherhood. Her pride only grew with the arrival of her grandchildren, Clayton (Hannah), Levi, Sienna, and Joshua, each of whom brought her endless joy. Verna was known for her nurturing spirit, especially her natural gift with babies. Any child she held, seemed to find instant peace in her arms. She was “Grandma Verna” to many children outside of her immediate family and it is a title she wore with the utmost pride. She was a wholehearted animal lover and had many fur babies through the years, including her three cats that will miss her back home on the farm. Beyond her family, Verna served her community faithfully. After graduating from the Wymark Highschool, she worked at the Co-op Bakery and later went on to be the Wymark postmaster for 45 years. She frequently volunteered at the rink and contributed to its ongoing success. She enjoyed attending coffee house, often bringing along her famous baked treats to share.
Verna was a woman of many talents and passions. She loved to read, knit, play piano, puzzle, and spend long hours playing scrabble with her sister, Ruth. An avid gardener, Verna had a special touch for planting seeds just right, a skill her family still marvels at and tries to imitate. Her memory was legendary. Verna could recall the names, stories, and family ties of nearly everyone she met. She became the family storyteller, ensuring traditions and memories were carried forward at gatherings and holidays. Verna’s kitchen was always a place of welcome, known for her incredible cooking and her delicious pies and buns. She embodied hospitality with her readiness to feed anyone that came through her door at any moment. Family, friends, neighbours, and even unexpected visitors could always count on a warm meal at her table.
Above all, Verna will be remembered for her patience, gentle spirit, and kindness. She had a rare ability to bring peace to any room, offering encouragement, warmth and love wherever she went.
Verna is survived by her husband, John Dyck; a son, Jeffrey (Bethany) Dyck – their children, Clayton (Hannah) Hunter, Sienna, and Joshua Dyck; a daughter, Jillian Dyck – her son, Levi Hancock; a sister, Ruth Wiebe; her brothers, John (Susan) Peters, and Dennis (Diana) Peters; a brother-in-law, Darrell Crooks; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Henry & Mary Peters; a sister, Sandra Crooks; and by a brother-in-law, Don Wiebe.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at The Meadows – House # 13, for their care and support during Verna’s time in residence.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, September 6th, 2025 at 2:00pm from the Wymark Rink, with a luncheon to follow. In memory of Verna Dyck, donations may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or to the Wymark Athletic Association.
