It is with a mixture of deep sadness and great joy that we wish to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Victor Sawatsky, into eternal life with his Saviour, Jesus Christ on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at the Meadows, Swift Current, SK.
Vic was born on October 14, 1932 to Gerhardt & Katarina Sawatzky on the home quarter three miles northwest of Gull Lake, SK. He was the eighth of nine children and spent much of his life right near where he was born. He attended Suffield School before beginning a lifetime’s work of farming. Farming the land was his profession and his passion. Dad loved to read and recite poetry, taught himself to play various musical instruments, and was fond of singing and whistling as he went about his day. He could fix anything, often on a shoestring.
Victor was a man of God and his unwritten creed was to live life selflessly and help anyone he could along the way. As his family, we will be forever blessed by his legacy of love and dedication to us all.
Vic is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marjorie; his daughters, Ann (Mark) Ryerson, Ruth Sawatsky, and Jane (Gary) Ferley; his son, Paul (Errin) Sawatsky; his grandsons, Eric and James Ryerson, and Ethan Sawatsky; his sister, Helene Zeliznik; his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Sawatzky, Shirley Funnell, and Nellie (Gary) Simpson; his brother-in-law, Arthur (Bonnie) Funnell; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Many, many thanks to the team of caregivers at the Meadows for the excellent and compassionate care given to Dad in the last few years of his life. We are so grateful for you and the love you showed him. Thank you also to both Doctor Gordon and Doctor Bakare for their expert care.
A Private Family Graveside Service will be held from the Gull Lake Cemetery, Gull Lake, SK
In memory of Vic Sawatsky, donations made to Gideons International would be appreciated by the family.
