William Braun, blessed with good health and strength for 90 years, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Pasqua Hospital in Regina, surrounded by family. Willie was born on March 21, 1934, near Main Centre, SK, to John and Helen Braun, he was one of 10 children. At the age of 22, he married his beloved Darlene Grace Janz on November 4, 1956.
After their marriage, Willie worked as a carpenter in Swift Current’s construction industry before becoming a self-employed expert cabinet maker. He took great pride in his work, enjoying the chance to meet new people. A skilled craftsman, Willie also had a passion for working with wood, leather, and beads. He and Darlene raised two sons and treasured their family camping and holiday trips. Later in life, they embarked on major adventures, volunteering with the Mennonite Disaster Service in Cheyenne, WY, and Sacramento, CA. They also enjoyed traveling to favorite destinations like the Black Hills, Medora, Glacier Park, and Rosebud.
Willie lovingly cared for Darlene until her passing in September. He is survived by his sons, Trevor (Carrie) and Dwight (Millie); grandchildren Cody (Brittany), Cherise (Jared), Graham (Vanessa), and Cameron; great-grandchildren Lennon, Liam, Jackson, and Charlotte; and his youngest brother, Hildor Braun. He was predeceased by his siblings Arnold, John, Jake, Pete, Otto, Henrietta, Katie, and Sophie.
Willie will be remembered for his honesty, integrity, hard work, and discipline, as well as his devoted care for Darlene throughout their lives. His quick wit and sense of humor will also be fondly remembered by his family and the many friends he made over the years.
Trevor and Dwight would like to express their gratitude to the friends and family in the Swift Current community who cared for their parents, as well as to the staff at Willow Creek Manor.
