Welcome to the memorial page for

Adena Voth

October 19, 2016

Adena Ethel Voth was born on October 26, 1930 to John I. & Anna (Toews) Thiessen, on the family farm in the Greenfarm District. At the age of 7 months her mother passed away and she went to live with her father’s sister & husband, Helena & John S. Thiessen, who later adopted her. Adena attended the Greenfarm School and completed her grade 8, and continued to complete her Grade 10 education through correspondence. Her family attended the Greenfarm church where she learned about the love of God, and the sacrifice Jesus His Son made through His death on the cross for the sins of the world. At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She was baptized and joined the Greenfarm church in her teen years. She loved to sing and was involved in the choir and a ladies quartet. On November 18, 1951, Adena married Albert Voth. Their union was blessed with three children – Gerald on October 20, 1952, Donald on October 18, 1953, and Valerie on December 10, 1954. Farm life was busy with 3 children, no indoor plumbing or electricity, but she never complained, and still had time for the church. She taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and Pioneer Girls. She was active in the Ladies Aide society in the local church and treasurer for the Southern Saskatchewan Ladies Auxiliary. Adena volunteered at the Herbert MCC Store for many years until her health declined and she could not to do that any longer. Adena enjoyed going to the manor every Friday with the church ladies to sing for the residents there and always took her omnichord along and played while she sang. Adena loved to travel, and together with Albert, they took many trips by car all over Canada and the USA, including a trip to Europe. They also took 12 bus trips to various places all over North America. Adena’s health began to fail about five years ago beginning with back problems that caused her a great deal of pain and led to back surgery. She then had a knee replacement a couple of years later. Adena seemed to recover from these but then began to experience breathing problems. In December 2015 she was hospitalized for a couple of weeks and was diagnosed with COPD and congestive heart failure. This past year was a constant struggle with these health issues. Adena was admitted to the Cypress Regional Hospital on October 5, 2016 and passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at the age of 85 years, 11 months, and 23 days. Adena leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 64 years, Albert; her children, Gerald & Joyce Voth, Donald & Trudy Voth, and Valerie & Dennis Krell; her 8 grandchildren; her 6 great-grandchildren; her half-sister, Delores & John Chandler, her half-brother, Jack & Carmie Thiessen; her brothers-in-laws, John P. Voth, Jake & Sophie Voth; her sisters-in-law, Marj & John Dyck, Sarah Unger, Agnes (Voth) Stockell, Rose Falconer; and her many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, John S. & Helena Thiessen; her parents-in-law, Peter & Helen Voth; her half-sister & husband, Sylvia & Richard White; and by her sisters & brothers-in-law, Ed Voth, Edna Voth, Abe Unger, Bernie Falconer, and Liz & John Klassen.
