Our house was saddened this morning to learn of Brian's death. We regret that we did not hear of his passing until it was too late to attend his service to bear witness to his life. Brian was a great man and the memorial tributes speak volumes on that point.

Corinne had the good fortunate to have Brian as a colleague in her first teaching assignment at SCCI ("The established school" as Agnes Thorson would say.) He was a good friend and mentor to her in her formative years as a teacher. I too had the good fortune to have Brian as a supervising teacher during my final training session as an educator. He had a profound effect on me and it carried on through my years in education.

Brian's career was long and it was always productive. He served with dedication and dignity in every one of his many assignments. He leaves an enviable record. Corinne and I send our sincere condolences at your loss.

I am sad to hear of the passing of Brian Ward. He was my home room teacher in grade 11 at what was then Swift Current Collegiate Institute, later W. A. Beattie Collegiate Institute. Next year when I was in grade 12 our class learned that Brian would be promoted to vice principal of W. A. Beattie the following year when O. M. Irwin Collegiate would be opening. Our class was happy for him as we felt that he would be an excellent candidate. He always came across as very knowledgeable yet made his subjects interesting and easy to understand. The loyalty of students to Brian was confirmed when there was an incident between him and a troublesome student in another class and the parents of that student wanted his promotion rescinded. It was common knowledge that that student was a troublemaker and we were glad when we heard that cooler heads prevailed and Brian's promotion was affirmed. We were blesse with a great team of teachers during those years and Brian was near the top of the pack. My classmates and I were blessed to be equipped with a set of high values that we have kept to this day.

His family should be proud of him. While he is now physically separated from you the memories of him shall continue to live on with all of us.

I was lucky to know Brian in several different ways. He was my history teacher when I was in grade 11 and 12. No one messed with him yet we all loved him. He was excited about what he taught and he was always fair. He was the one who took me aside in my last semester and told me privately that if I wanted to go to university there was an anonymous benefactor who was willing to help. My parents couldn't afford it. The respect I had for him carried on when I returned to Swift Current to teach and he was my principal. Again, there was no one better. He raised the bar for everyone on his staff to teach with passion and to treat students and colleagues with dignity. Then, he became the superintendent and the care I saw him give every detail of this responsible position inspired me. I miss his character, the warmth of his smile, and the memories he had of me as a kid from a poor family who did good. It was always such a joy to see him whenever I came to Swift Current to visit my mother, who passed away eight years ago.
My condolences,
Lorna Crozier
