Donald McLachlan

Donald McLachlan, age 86, passed away on Thursday, July 9, 2015, at the Swift Current Care
Centre, Swift Current, SK.

Don was born October 26 1928, on the family farm south of Herbert, to William & Kitty McLachlan. On September 17 1949, Don married Lillian Jeffrey and together they farmed and raised their family, until they retired to Swift Current in 1989. Don farmed in partnership with his father, William, Uncle John and cousin, Delbert. In later years, Delbert and Don would farm together. They grew cereal crops and raised cattle. Don was a very hard worker and continued to help out on the farm in any way he could, even after moving to the city. He always made sure the family was well looked after and was always concerned about everyone. Donald spent the last 3 years at the Swift Current Care Centre where he formed many friendships with the staff. They all enjoyed his stories and the history he shared with them. We would like to thank the staff for their care and compassion that they showed to “Dad” while he was in their care.

Don is survived by his four children, Wayne (Linda) McLachlan of Calgary AB , Wes McLachlan, Grant (Dianne) McLachlan and Beverley (James) Maxwell all of Swift Current, SK; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters,  Evelyn Yake and Irene Moran; sisters-in-law, Joyce Belanger and Bessie Jeffrey; brother-in-law, Michael Moran; and by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, William, in 1971; his mother, Kitty, in 1933; his stepmother, Tena, in 2007; and most recently his wife, Lillian, in December 2014.

The Memorial Service was held on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at 2:00 pm from the Kingdom Hall, Swift Current, SK with Bill Burgess as speaker. In memory of Don McLachlan, donations made to the Swift Current Care Centre Auxiliary or to the Charity of the Donor’s Choice would be appreciated by the family. m
