Flora "Flo" Pederson

June 30, 2016

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Flora Jane “Flo” Pederson (nee Dunford) on Thursday, June 30th, 2016 at the Regina Pioneer Village, Regina, SK, at 90 years of age. Flo was born July 1st, 1925 to Gordon & Cecel Dunford at Portreeve, SK — she was one of nine children. Flo completed her schooling in Portreeve before enrolling in the Royal Canadian Air Force Women’s Division in 1943 at the young age of 18. Upon her discharge in 1945, Flo returned to Portreeve where she worked on the family farm. In 1947, Flo married James Pederson of Abbey, SK and they had two children – Joyce and Gordon. Flo worked as a postmistress in Shackleton, a clerk at both the Royal Bank and the Lancer Credit Union, manager of the Abbey Coop store and a school bus driver. Flo enjoyed playing and watching baseball, and was the catcher for the Portreeve Pirates during the 1930’s and 1940’s. She was very competitive at golf, curling, card games and board games. Flo also enjoyed crosswords, puzzles and reminiscing about the past. Flo was an active and proud lifetime member of the Abbey Royal Canadian Legion. She enjoyed spending as much time as she could with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Flo was predeceased by her parents, Gordon & Cecel Dunford; her brothers, Alvin Dunford and Pearson Dunford; and by her sisters Olive Schwengler, Dorothy Hudson, and Violet Thomson. Flo will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Joyce (Ken) Gibson; her son, Gordon (Karen) Pederson; her grandchildren: Trevor (Sheri) Gibson, Jamie (Dean) Gibson, Michael (Leanne) Pederson, Tyler (Erica) Pederson, and Caitlin Pederson; her great-grandchildren: Hayley Gibson, Taylor Gibson, Jared Gibson, and Blake Pederson; her brothers, Cephas Dunford and John Dunford; her sister, Hazel Drumm; her many in-laws; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
