Jean Spiker

Jean Spiker, age 74, passed away in the presence of her loving husband of 54 years, Art Spiker, on Friday, May 20th.  Jean is survived by her husband Arthur Spiker, daughter Shawna, her children Scott (Zoe), Samantha (Brandon) and Sean, son Darren (Sabrina) and their son Ben, her sister Dorothy (Gil) and sister Betty, her sisters-in-law Annette, Phyllis, Peggy, her brother in law David and by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and two great great nephews.  Jean was predeceased her son Dean, her parents Harry and Florence, her brothers; Gordon in infancy and Harry and sister Judy and Brothers in law Leonard and Ray. She will be forever remembered, and deeply missed, as a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and as a generous and spirited member of our community. 

Jean was born in Ontario, on November 8, 1941. When her father returned from WWII, the family settled in Chaplin, Sk.  Jean worked as a Telephone Operator in Cabri, SK. and there met the love of her life, Art. They settled in Swift Current and raised their family.  Many will remember Jean from her years at Beaver Lumber as well as at the Swift Current Booster were she could be relied upon for her humour, opinion and generosity. Jean supported her children and grandchildren in their many sporting and educational activities over the years.  Jean was a vocal supporter of the Swift Current Broncos for 40+ years. Jean could always be relied on to lend a hand, volunteer where and when needed, and was a true and trusted friend to so many. 

The Memorial Service will take place on Friday, May 27th at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Church in Swift Current with Rev. Annette Taylor officiating. The graveside service will be held at the Hillcrest Cemetery and the family welcomes you to join them back at the First United Church for a lunch after. For those wishing, donations to the Swift Current Bronco Scholarship Fund or the Children's Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan would be deeply appreciated.
