Welcome to the memorial page for

Kathy Blakely

April 17, 2016

We say "A Last Farewell" to Kathy Blakely — Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, and Friend. Kathy, age 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at the Palliser Regional Care Centre in Swift Current, SK. Kathy was born on December 31, 1935 in Swift Current to Kenneth & Hilda Trimble. Kathy went to school at Elmwood and SCCI, she was in Girl Guides as a youth and sang in the choir at St. Stephens Anglican Church. She attended Secretarial College before entering the workforce. Kathy worked as a secretary at the Swift Current Research Station: 3 years at Stedman's Department Store: and 26 years at Safeway — from which she retired at age 62. Kathy was all about family, friends and giving. One of her biggest joys was seeing all the family members at the many Trimble Family Reunions that were held every few years. She loved watching the reunion grow as the families got bigger. She also gave her time volunteering at the Legion with the Ladies Auxiliary and at the Salvation Army. Kathy loved writing poetry and music — especially Roger Whittaker, who sang her favorite song, "The Last Farewell" and whom she saw him in concert about a dozen times. Kathy loved Saskatchewan and boasted about Swift Current whenever she could. Kathy has touched the lives of many — her family, her friends and all she greeted while working at Safeway all those years. She will be truly missed. We Love You. A big Thank You goes out to the care-givers at the Cypress Regional Hospital and the Palliser Regional Care Centre for the fabulous love and care in making her final days peaceful. Kathy was predeceased by her sisters, Jean Smith and Madeline Moffitt; and by her brother, Norm Trimble. She is survived by her son, Dave (Bonnie) Blakely; her grandson, Nick Blakely; her granddaughters, Angela Murdoch, Pamela Jack, and Juliane Hartley; and by her great-grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Xyia and Asher Hartley, and Liam Jack.

The Funeral Service was held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Alex Allan officiating. The pianist for the service was Joyce Kettner (niece).  The scripture reading from Psalm 23 was read by Angela Murdoch (granddaughter). “In the Garden”, “My Jesus, I Love Thee” and “God Be with You Till We Meet Again” were sung by the congregation. The eulogy and tributes were shared by Dave Blakely, Joyce Kettner and Nick Blakely (grandson). The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Nick Blakely, Darryl Kettner, Darren Kettner, Michael Trimble, William Antonishyn and Cory Antonishyn.
