Mary Klassen

Mary Klassen, age 93, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2016, at the Swift Current Care Centre, Swift Current, SK. Mary was born on August 17, 1922 at Chaplin, SK to John & Anna Banman. Mary and Jacob Klassen were married on January 7, 1943, at the First United Church in Swift Current. This union was blessed with six children 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Mary loved Jesus, her Lord and Saviour. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, and also did a lot of sewing for her family as well as for others. Mary enjoyed being around people and was a good hostess. She also worked for many years at the Swift Current Bible School as well as doing janitorial work with her husband, Jake, at the Carmel Clinic, Quinns and Dr. Baba’s Office. Mary leaves to cherish her memory, to her children, Esther (Peter) Wiens and family: Raymond (Joan) Wiens – Zachary & Madison: Roberta Wiens (Paul Barboni): Rhonda (Derek) Zaharko – Jackson & Kensie: Stanley (Shirley) Klassen and family: Kelly (Petrica) Klassen – Jacob & Caleb: Craig Klassen (Shannon Lavigne) – Sterling & Kaeden: Robert (Barb) Klassen and family:  Tanya (Tom) Schlamp: Curtis (Carrie) Klassen – Kalem, Evan & Alyssa: Leonard (Sheila) Klassen and family: Darren (Tia) Klassen – Colbie: Darlene Klassen (Terry Croteau): Danelle Klassen: Betty-Anne (Gerald) Thiessen and family: Ryan (Stephanie) Thiessen – Pierce & Norah: Tracy Thiessen: Dylan (Michelle) Thiessen – Rowan & Asher: Gordon (Sandra) Klassen and family: Jeremy (Annette) Klassen – Mackenzie: Nathan (Pam) Klassen; and her nephew, Bob (Pat) Banman and family. She was predeceased by her husband, Jacob, in 2005; her mother, Anna (Olfert) Kettler; her father, John Banman; her brother & sister-in-law, John (Faye) Banman; and by numerous half-brothers and sisters. Mary was a kind, loving, caring and generous person…and an awesome Mom. The family would like to commend the staff at the Swift Current Care Centre for their wonderful care of their Mother for the last 10 years. 

The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at 2:00 pm from the Zion Mennonite Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bryon Bezanson officiating. The pianist for the service was Barb Klassen. “Amazing Grace” and “Softly and Tenderly” were sung by the congregation under the direction of Gordon, Jeremy and Nathan Klassen. The life history was shared by Stan Klassen and Esther Wiens with tributes shared by the Children and Grandchildren. Scripture was read from Psalm 23 and from Psalm 84. The chosen recessional song was “Christians Never Say Goodbye”. The ushers in the church were Victor Klassen and Henry Giesbrecht. The Interment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following grandsons serving as pallbearers, Kelly Klassen, Tom Schlamp, Curtis Klassen, Darren Klassen, Ryan Thiessen, Dylan Thiessen, Jeremy Klassen and Nathan Klassen. Honorary pallbearers were the following Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren, Raymond (Joan) Wiens – Zachary & Madison: Roberta Wiens & Paul Barboni: Rhonda (Derek) Zaharko – Jackson & Kensie: Petrica Klassen – Jacob & Caleb: Craig Klassen (Shannon Lavigne) – Sterling & Kaeden: Tanya Schlamp: Carrie Klassen – Kalem, Evan & Alyssa: Tia Klassen – Colbie: Darlene Klassen (Terry Croteau): Danelle Klassen: Stephanie Thiessen – Pierce & Norah: Tracy Thiessen: Michelle Thiessen – Rowan & Asher: Annette Klassen – Mackenzie: Pam Klassen.
