Hello Garth, Lois, Donna, Bob, Marg and Uncle Ben
It has been too long since I've been out to Swift Current and Herbert but I do have fond memories of visiting Aunt Nettie and Uncle Jake in Herbert. Most of the times I visited were after you guys had all grown up and moved out. One time I remember Garth had broken his leg playing high school football the day before we arrived. Visits to Aunt Nettie's were pretty cool. The lava lamp in the living room was a novelty we didn't have at our house. That really steep set of stairs going up to the bedrooms was fun and once at the top there was this awesome shuffle board table. We didn't have one of those at our house either. I remember sprinkling the powder onto the surface so that we could try to get the perfect slide and curl on the rocks. Aunt Nettie and Uncle Jake's was the only place I played shuffleboard. Uncle Jake took me golfing one evening to the Herbert 9 hole course....it was a glorified cow pasture complete with barbed wire fencing. I had never played on sand greens but enjoyed the challenge. I had also never played at a course where payment of green fees was on the honor system. There was a mailbox by the first tee where you would place your green fee. In my grade 12 year I went to Aunt Nettie's without my family. My friend and I were racing motocross in Swift Current and we stayed at Aunt Nettie and Uncle Jake's the night before. As with every visit there was Aunt Nettie's famous cooking. Her fresh baked buns, bread and chocolate cake were always absolutely marvellous and the first two we didn't have at our place either. I'm pretty sure that it was Aunt Nettie's fresh baked buns and bread that started my lifelong addiction to this calorie source. All these memories are really just extensions of who Aunt Nettie was. She was a very genuine woman who always welcomed me with a big warm heart and a hug. Her caring and hospitality were sincere and always shared with joy. I am encouraged to see that Aunt Nettie lived this way for a full 93 years. Most of her brothers and sisters left far too early.
Sincerely
Greg Dyck, Shawna and Tyson
Son of Nettie's brother Jake

Dear Lois, Donna, Marg, Bob, Garth, U. Ben and family,
Rudy and I sincerely regret that we will not be able to join you for the funeral service tomorrow. Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you as you celebrate the life and grieve the loss of your precious Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Great-Great-Grandmother and Sister. Aunt Nettie will forever hold a very special place in our hearts. She was a favorite aunt always treating us with warmth and love when we came to visit. We were always amazed when Aunt Nettie pulled out the best ever freshly baked chocolate cake from her pantry for dessert - yum!!. We will greatly miss her. With our most heartfelt condolences and love, Betty and Rudy

Thank you Dallas, it was so very good of you to visit her, she always did enjoy company. In the last year she would often tell me she had had company but she didn't remember and couldn't tell me who had come. We will all miss her dearly, she was a very caring mother, Lo

My sincere condolences at this sad time. Nettie was my neighbour and I was introduced to her by Selma Siemens, but I got to know Nettie at the Manor at the Friday hymn sings. She was the most cheerful, sweet person, and I came to love her dearly. Later, I would see her at the nursing home when I was there playing for our monthly church service. She would sit right by the piano, and between hymns and afterward she would hold my hand and we would talk. I will always miss Nettie.
