Marion Orthner, age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 13, 2015 at the Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current, SK. Marion was born on August 19, 1922 in Lashburn, SK to Lawrence & Edna (Crane) Brownell. She grew up on a farm north of Neilburg, SK and attended the Cozy Nook School. Marion took a year of Bible School at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills Alberta, then completed the Psychiatric Nursing Program at the Saskatchewan Hospital in Weyburn. It was here she met Walter Orthner, whom she married on January 3, 1951. In 1960 they adopted a son, Ronald, and in 1962 their second son, Timothy. The family moved to Swift Current in 1965 and Marion stayed home to raise the boys. She returned to work in 1967 and retired from her job as a Social worker with the Department of Social Services in 1981. In 1972, Walter & Marion purchased some land north of Swift Current.  In 1973, they built a house on the farm and moved the family there. Walter & Marion remained on the farm until they moved to Riverview Village Estates in the summer of 2011. Marion enjoyed the farm, her special talent was the garden and fruit orchard. Pantry shelves were filled each fall with home canned produce. She could also drive a tractor or ride a horse to round up cattle if necessary. Marion was a devout Christian with a ready laugh and a sunny outlook. She attended Trailview Alliance Church regularly where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and helped out where needed. Marion was predeceased by: her husband, Walter, in 2013; her parents, Lawrence & Edna; Walter’s parents, Rudolph & Maria Orthner; all of her siblings; and by all Walter’s brothers and sisters. Marion is survived by: her son; Ronald (Miriam); his children, Justin (Kim) and Jennifer (Chris) Cragg; son Timothy (Patricia); and their children, Victoria, Olivia, and Michael; four great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Evie, Tegwen, and Elizabeth Orthner; brother-in-law, Roland Flathman; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
