Mary B. Wiebe

November 15, 2016

Mary Wiebe passed away peacefully at the age of 96 on November 15, 2016 at the Herbert Nursing Home. She was born on April 3, 1920 in the Wymark District to Bernhard & Aganetha Peters. She married Bernhard Wiebe on April 6, 1941. Together they enjoyed travelling to see their relatives in Manitoba, La Crete, and even in Mexico. Mary’s faith in the Lord helped her through many illnesses and hardships. She faithfully attended church, even when her health was beginning to fail. She took great pride in her garden, especially her rose bushes. Mary enjoyed cooking for family and friends — there was always food ready, no matter what time of day it was. Special requests from the grandchildren were never ignored — whether it was pickled beans, chicken noodle soup, portzelky (New Year’s cookies), sausage, schmaunt vat, and kielke. Mary is survived by her children, John (Muriel) Wiebe, Sharon Wiebe, Irene (Jim) Ens, Rhonda Hanlon, and Norman (Carol) Wiebe; her grandchildren, Wanita (Eric) Christensen, Darren (Marla) Ens, Darrell (Aline) Wiebe, Lori (Mike) Watt, Barry (Dawnell) Wiebe, Brent (Diane Keith) Wiebe, Denise (Miles Huxted) Wiebe, Lana (Craig Wilson) Wiebe, Nichole Hanlon, and Shauna (Chris) Oyka; her seventeen great-grandchildren; her four step-grandchildren; her seven step-great-grandchildren; her thirteen step-great-great-grandchildren; her sisters, Helen Andres, Liz (John) Klassen; her in-laws, Mary Peters, Helen Peters, Leona Peters, Harry (Susan) Wiebe, Tina Krahn, Margaret Wiebe, Tina Wiebe, and Sally Wiebe; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Bernhard Wiebe, in 2001; her son, Elmer Wiebe, in 2002, her grandson, Clinton Ens, in 1968; her parents, Bernhard & Aganetha Peters; and by several of her siblings and in-laws. The funeral service was held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Church of the Open Bible, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Rob Cochrane officiating. Ron Olfert led the congregation in singing “The Old Rugged Cross,” “In the Garden,” and “Great is Thy Faithfulness” with Roxanne Funk serving as pianist. The Obituary was read by Darrell Wiebe. Tributes were given by Shelby Christensen and Chantal Story. Neil Peters, Larry Peters, Allen Peters, and Jacqueline Robertson served as ushers. Prior to the Funeral Service, Mary was laid to rest in a Private Family Interment Service at the Hillcrest Cemetery with Brent Wiebe, Keegan Story, Chantal Story, Nichole Hanlon, Darrell Wiebe, and Barry Wiebe serving as pallbearers.
